Direct Administrative Leadership of the Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine Research Program Planning and Development

  • Serve as primary administrative resource for the Chair, and affiliated faculty for clinical and translational research matters.
  • Develop a long-range strategic and associated financial plan.  Build the capability to describe the research portfolio across multiple parameters and conduct periodic analyses of the portfolio.   Identify risks and facilitate development of mitigation strategies to assure growth and long-term viability.  Monitor the strategic plan and flag issues / recommend adjustments as needed.
  • Develop strategies for funding (e.g., pilot research programs, program-projects, cores, clinical initiatives, and infrastructure). Identify, investigate, and qualify funding sources for these components, including traditional and novel approaches.  Facilitate development of high priority funding opportunities in partnership with institutional resources, such as the Development Office, as appropriate.
  • Assist Chair and faculty to develop new research programs and initiatives.  Coordinate the preparation and submission of research proposals, reports and updates to various government, industry and philanthropic organizations, working closely with faculty, administrative support staff, program manager and grant managers / coordinators.
  • Supervise longitudinal patient disease registry initiative
  • Establish a multi-institutional infrastructure for surgical trials
  • Facilitate the research planning efforts initiated by the Chair and faculty by assisting with the collection of data, the integration of cross unit (department, division, institution) information, and the synthesis of these data into planning documents. 
  • Identify and coordinate the implementation of strategies to enhance internal investigator collaboration and interaction between the GYNONC Program stakeholders to create an environment that fosters new ideas for research initiatives.
  • Develop proposal components as requested and in a manner to allow for re-use of components common to other proposals.  Update common proposal components as needed and to maintain conformance with sponsor guidelines.
  • Serve as an expert resource for faculty and staff with regard to sponsored research related issues.  Provide both pre- and post-award consultation services as needed
  • Coordinate and plan meetings, retreats, seminars and special events.
  • Provide support to the GYNONC Program research initiatives as directed by the Chair, and to include alignment with the Core Grant and the Moonshot program.
  • Establish, in conjunction with the Director of Research and Department Chair an effective governance structure to include an External Advisory Board (EAB).  Recruit members to the EAB.  Facilitate the on-going engagement of the EAB, to include coordination of the development of meeting agendas, management of meeting logistics, and implementation of agreed to actions.
  1. Private Sector / Industry / Government / Community Collaboration
  • Develop and coordinate educational and scientific activities which foster new agreements and opportunities or enhance existing relationships with external stakeholders whose interests are relevant to and align with the aims of GYNONC Program.
  • Provide support to faculty and facilitate research collaborations and sharing of resources with other UT System, Texas Medical Center, State of Texas, regional, and national entities.                                                                                                                           
  1. Management of Research Resources, and Communications, Budget, and Administrative Processes
  • Identify and plan for the development of infrastructure needs, including space, staff, information technology, and funding, to support GYNONC Program plans for its growth.
  • Develop metrics to monitor progress.  Build capability to efficiently and effectively periodically report on these metrics.  Conduct analyses of performance across key metrics, including submitted and awarded projects.
  • Identify external resources that could contribute to the Department’s mission.
  • Identify mechanisms for trainees (including pre- and post-doctoral trainees) to contribute to and benefit from the research opportunities and resources available through the GYNONC Program.
  • Draft communications and promotional materials in keeping with institutional standards and work with the Development Office to prepare overview and other support materials.
  • Prepare an annual report as requested by Department leadership.
  • Coordinate activities with those of the other Departments.
  • Develop new research administration processes as needed to effectively link and leverage existing processes within units (departments, divisions, institutions) in order to reduce administrative barriers to cross-boundary collaborative initiatives.  Enhance processes such that they become repeatable and scalable to support Program growth.
  • Develop reusable budget models and metrics to use as guidelines for research programs and cores to insure effective use or research resources and to model alternative scenarios.
  • Serve as primary contact for the Office of Sponsored Research, department, division, and other institution stakeholders concerning policy changes and the resolution of issues.
  • Provide support and expertise to faculty as requested in the development of favorable budget and contract terms for new research programs.
  1. Human Resource Management
  • Supervise and carry out, the human resource related functions for direct reports in positions that may be created.
  • Other Duties as assigned

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in science or medically related field, business or healthcare administration.

Required Experience:

Five years experience in an academic research setting facilitating research program development and management of research resources. With preferred degree, three years of required experience. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Preferred Skills:

Designing or developing programs, data and reporting, leading teams, strong people skills.

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
