SUMMARY

The primary function of the Research Scientist is to conduct  major scientific projects by planning, directing of major research projects in the laboratory to include assisting in the development of and overseeing study design and execution, co-authoring manuscripts and assisting with supervision of team members.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
We are immediately seeking a scientist with a Ph.D degree in biomedical science and cancer research. The ideal candidate will possess a track record of successful study and have documented publications in internationally peer-reviewed scientific journals. Final selection will be based on the expertise and motivation of the candidate.

Scientist who holds this position is studying the underlying mechanisms of polyploid giant cancer cells in therapeutic resistance. Polyploid giant cancer cells (PGCCs) can give rise to therapy-resistant cells in various types of solid tumors, but the underlying mechanisms that are association with irradiation, chemotherapy drugs, olaparib-resistance in high-grade serous carcinomas (HGSCs) and other cancers - is unknown. The successful candidate will join our lab in contributing to the development of preclinical projects that include multiple experimental approaches including in vitro tissue culture of PGCCs, stem cell differentiation, histopathology, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, liver cell image and time-lapse, and animal models. This role will also include analyzing and interpreting data, managing data to communicate the scientific findings at informal and formal meetings, and preparing abstracts and manuscripts for presentation and publication in peer-review journals. As such, the ideal candidate must have demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific investigations.

Lead  major scientific projects: Manages and participates in scientific research projects. Assists the PI with scientific business and  lab operations on a daily basis. Oversees experimental design and implements solution to problems. Assists with the study design of basic and translational projects in ovarian cancer. Develop innovative approaches to research questions. Supervises and guides other lab members for troubleshooting the experiments. Pursues research projects and participates in collaborative projects with extramural organizations including pharmaceutical companies and collaborators from other academic institutions.

Reports: Assists in analyzing and interpreting experimental results and performs statistical analysis. Prepares, and presents data for publication or scientific meeting. Assists in writing and submitting  papers for publications. Participates in the dissemination of research findings, including co-authorship of manuscripts and preparation of presentations for scientific meetings.

Technique Training: Standardizes and optimizes all research  procedures. Develops and revises techniques or approaches to work problems.  Supervises and trains technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper techniques. Oversees lab safety protocols and EHS lab inspections and manages IBC, IRB and IACUC documents and submissions. Overseas Lab equipment inventory.

Other duties as assigned.

Masters degree in one of the natural sciences or related field. Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work. With PhD, no experience required. With Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.
