The Strategic Communications department at MD Anderson leads the institution’s integrated storytelling, digital strategy and brand communications. The team partners across the cancer center to deliver clear, engaging and accessible content that supports MD Anderson’s mission to end cancer. Through collaboration and data-informed decision-making, Strategic Communications ensures that patients, caregivers, employees, donors and the public receive timely, trustworthy and mission-aligned information.

Purpose
The primary purpose of the Senior Communications Specialist, Integrated Media is to support MD Anderson’s digital communications strategy by developing content that highlights healthy living and cancer prevention topics and trends. This content will be used across institutional publications, social media channels and MD Anderson’s website.


The ideal candidate will be a strong writer with demonstrated experience in digital communications, including search engine optimization for content optimization. They will also bring a background in health writing, preferably as a health journalist.

Key Functions

Digital Content Development

  • Collaborates with colleagues and customers across the organization, including patients, caregivers and donors, to regularly create healthy living and cancer prevention content for MD Anderson publications and digital platforms.
  • Produces a wide range of materials, including blog posts, Annual Report articles and data, infographics, email newsletters, video scripts, social media posts, podcasts, web copy, and other communications materials or special projects. 
  • Ensures all content is accurate, current, consistent and aligned with MD Anderson’s brand messaging and digital content strategy.
  • Optimizes content for search engines and digital engagement.
  • Applies accessibility best practices across all work products.

Writing and Editing

  • Writes content for a variety of audiences engaging with MD Anderson’s digital properties.
  • Produces clear and consistent writing and editing across all deliverables.
  • Demonstrates strong command of Associated Press style and MD Anderson style.
  • Proactively identifies new content ideas by monitoring social media conversations and search trends to surface timely and relevant topics.

Program / Project Management

  • Partners with internal customers to effectively define, initiate and execute digital content projects.
  • Participates in key customer meetings and serves as a consultative resource as needed.

Measurement

  • Tracks and analyzes the performance of digital communications.
  • Provides regular status reports and identifies potential issues, offering solutions to support continuous improvement.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's Degree English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.

Preferred: Master's Degree English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

Required: Four years Experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field or two years required experience with preferred degree.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
