MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Senior Communications Specialist, Integrated Media, position is to support MD Anderson’s philanthropic campaign(s) through digital communications and content creation.

The ideal candidate will have experience creating and managing web content. They will also possess a background in writing for philanthropic or fundraising audiences, have experience with Adobe Analytics, and demonstrate strong writing skills in a communications role. This position may be traveling to various fundraising events as needed, therefore someone living in the Houston or surrounding region may be preferred. 

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Web Content Development  

  • Creates a broad range of online, philanthropy-focused content targeting donors and other external stakeholders or to promote MD Anderson.
  • This may include feature articles and profiles, patient information stories, emails and newsletters, social media posts, and more.

Writing/Editing 

  • Write and copy-edit philanthropic-focused content for all MD Anderson digital platforms including: MDAnderson.org, Cancerwise blog, campaign microsite, Annual Reports, mobile applications and other related sites and media.
  • Research topics related to patient care, research and prevention, MD Anderson’s programs and history.
  • Command of Associated Press and MD Anderson styles.
  • Fact-checks and gains necessary approval of copy before publication.

Project Management  

  • Define, initiate and implement philanthropic-focused digital communication projects.
  • Coordinate and monitor project timelines and maintain exceptional relationships with stakeholders.
  • Create best-in-class team member experience.
  • Work closely across departments to ensure success.

Measurement  

  • Provide campaign analysis for philanthropy-focused digital content that uses lead indicators and data to drive performance.
  • Analyze the performance and analytics of digital communications to inform future direction.

Other Duties as Assigned   

Education

Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications or related field.

Experience

Required: Four years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field. With preferred degree, two years of required experience.

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
