The Senior Computational Scientist in the Radiation Physics department at MD Anderson Cancer Center will assist in supporting, designing, developing, and maintaining the computational infrastructure for treatments using radiotherapy as well as for advanced research and development through a combination of commercial and in-house software. 

Specific emphasis will be placed on data management including the ability to work with common commercial database platforms and the ability to assist in ensuring data integrity. This is not primary a customer support position but the person in this position will be required to participate in front-line support as needed for the specific applications they create and/or help manage.
 
The ideal candidate will have experience in Radiation Therapy treatment planning systems and data integrity. Experience in database design (such as Microsoft SQL and/or Postgres) and software development (such as .Net, C#, Python, and/or PHP) are preferred.

KEY FUNCTIONS
  • Develops and oversees the maintenance of software tools and infrastructure for radiotherapy.
  • Designs, analyzes, develops and assists others in the development of formalisms, algorithms and software for complex applications in radiation therapy.
  • Assists in scheduling and performing maintenance on the servers used in Radiotherapy to ensure high-reliability and minimum down-time, this requires working closely with the institutional server team. This will require off-hour work on nights and weekends.
  • Assists in the implementation of commercial or academic databases and/or software code within the M.D. Anderson environment.
  • Provides front-line support as needed for software created by or managed by the Radiation Physics Infra-structure group.
  • Directs and consults with users and other personnel in analyzing, defining and resolving computer problems.
  • Manages clinical research projects involving computer applications under the direction of a Senior Faculty member.
  • Mentors the technical aspects of other Computational Scientists and others as assigned.
  • Assists in retrieving and analyzing data from various systems as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS


Education

Required: Bachelor's degree with a concentration in Science, Engineering or related field.

Preferred: Master's degree with a concentration in Science, Engineering or related field.


Experience

Required: Nine years of experience in scientific software programming with a concentration in scientific computing.

With preferred degree, seven years of experience required.

Preferred: Experience in Radiotherapy Treatment planning systems, experience in data integrity.
