Senior HVAC Mechanic - Evenings
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is home to a comprehensive Facilities Management team that supports a complex healthcare, research, and administrative environment through the maintenance and operation of critical building systems. The Senior HVAC Mechanic plays an essential role in ensuring heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and related systems operate safely, efficiently, and reliably across the institution.
UT MD Anderson is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Senior HVAC Mechanic is responsible for maintaining critical facility infrastructure that supports patient care, research operations, and everyday campus functions. The Senior HVAC Mechanic serves as a technical expert, mentor, and coordinator while helping UT MD Anderson maintain a safe and comfortable environment. The Senior HVAC Mechanic works closely with technicians, mechanics, vendors, and facility stakeholders to support operational excellence.
Seeking an experienced HVAC professional to repair and maintain HVAC systems, respond to customer and emergency service calls, and provide effective problem-solving and leadership. HVAC Contractor's License or TDLR certification preferred.
Position information
Hourly Salary: Minimum $39.66 - Midpoint $49.51 - Maximum $59.37
Hours: Monday - Friday, 3pm - 11:30pm

Maintain, Repair, and Troubleshoot
Installs, repairs, and maintains HVAC equipment.
Serves as an HVAC/R member of the PM team.
Installs, repairs, and maintains refrigeration equipment.
Completes all required paperwork, including timesheets, activity logs, and related documentation.
Demonstrates knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions associated with the job.
Understands the use of all hand tools and shop tools of the trade.
Requisitions materials and maintains inventory.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Subject Matter Expert
Monitors and troubleshoots HVAC issues through BAS systems and/or other diagnostic tools.
Follows preventive maintenance schedules and makes recommendations regarding major system overhauls.
Investigates outages and system failures.
Inspects completed jobs for compliance with work requests, job requirements, specifications, and applicable codes.
Leadership and Coordination
Coordinates and prioritizes the workflow of technicians and mechanics.
Participates in the development of the Owner's Design Guidelines, project design phases, and review processes.
Inspects contracted HVAC work to ensure repairs and installations are compliant with specifications and applicable codes.
Functions as a point of contact for vendors.
Prepares and submits reports.
Participates in process improvement initiatives.
CMMS Documentation and Communication
Provides complete and accurate information to document corrective actions, labor hours, and materials used on work orders.
Maintains accurate CMMS documentation.
Communicates promptly with the supervisor regarding any issues encountered during the performance of work.
Subject Matter Expert

Customer Service and Emergency Response
Responds to customer calls and provides customer service.
Responds to facility emergencies, including Code Red events and other emergency situations.

EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Associate's Degree Air conditioning/refrigeration engineering or technology or mechanical engineering.
- Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Air conditioning/refrigeration engineering or technology or mechanical engineering.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: Eight years Experience in a mechanical field to include commercial installation, repair and maintenance of HVAC, refrigeration, control systems or other mechanical environments. or
- Required: Seven years Experience required with preferred Associates degree, as referenced by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulations (TDLR). or
- Required: Six years Experience required with preferred Bachelors degree, as referenced by the TDLR.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Required: UC-EPA - Universal Certification Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: TDL - Texas Drivers License Valid and current Texas driver's license with a minimum of three year's history of verifiable driving history. With less than three years of driving history, but with a minimum of one year of driving history, a waiver may be requested. Upon Hire or
- Preferred: ACRC - A/C & Refrigeration Contractor Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (ACR) Contractor's license issued by the State of Texas Upon Hire
