Patient Care and Prevention Facilities (PC&PF) is fundamental to the daily operations of MD Anderson Cancer Center. This department ensures all of the hospital's facilities are safe, operational, and compliant with accreditation standards. It fosters an environment of growth and professional development by cultivating the skills necessary to oversee the vital maintenance operations needed throughout the institution. PC&PF also plays a longitudinal role for the institution in overseeing the construction of new facilities and the modernization of existing buildings through new software and monitoring initiatives. All of this makes PC&PF a vital and integral department in delivering world class cancer care to patients.

The ideal candidate is a reliable and self-motivated maintenance professional with 5+ years of experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, or general facilities maintenance, preferably within a hospital or healthcare environment. They possess strong troubleshooting and repair skills, relevant trade certifications, and experience using CMMS or work order systems to efficiently manage maintenance activities. This individual excels in occupied environments where minimizing disruption is critical, demonstrates a strong commitment to safety, and provides exceptional customer service when interacting with patients, staff, and vendors. The ability to work independently while supporting and guiding other technicians is essential for success in this role.

The salary range is $69,000 - $86,000 - $103,000

Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7am-3:30pm

Maintain, Repair, Troubleshoot - Subject Matter Expert  Lead or under limited supervision performs repairs, troubleshooting, routes and preventative maintenance on various equipment, buildings, and utility systems using one or more craft trade skills.

Maintains records of materials, jobs, and other pertinent information.

Responds to and triages critical equipment alarms and makes repairs as necessary.

Repair and maintain utility systems equipment, such as, pumps, valves, steam systems, vacuum pumps, compressors, water softeners and heat exchangers.

Notify management of all recognized equipment repairs.

Clean and maintain equipment and work areas.

Engage in collaborative efforts by team members from all craft shops to resolve problems and repair/upgrade deficiencies in the utility systems.

Communicate with team members to identify needs for improvement.

Water quality analysis and/or recording of data on:

MD Anderson main City of Houston water surge tanks

Chlorine testing at EH&S designated locations.

Hardness sampling of water softeners.

RO/DI sampling of all soft-water systems.

Domestic hot water systems.

A/C chilled water and heating hot water closed-loop systems.

All completed work meets professional standards of cleanliness, maintenance and safety in accordance with work instructions

Coordinates regulatory inspections by external agencies. Coordinates work.

May order materials and maintain inventory.

Participates in the development of the "Owners Design Guidelines", project design phases and review processes.

Inspects contracted work to ensure repairs and installations are compliant.

Functions as a point of contact for vendors.

Prepares and submits reports.

Participates in process improvement initiatives.

May precept staff.

Investigates outages.

Interprets and works from instructions, blueprints, sketches and diagrams in the installation of utility systems.

Respond to customer calls  Respond to customer calls and provide customer services. Communicate on an ongoing basis with customers and clients to determine current status of deliverables and to learn about customer needs.

Report and Document   Provide complete information to accurately document corrective action, labor hours, and materials used on work orders.

Timely communication to supervisor of any other issues encountered during the performance of work.

Emergency responses   Emergency responses for facilities including code red alarms

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree Technical or Trade school

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: Five years Experience in one or more crafts (i.e. plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, HVAC, instrumentation).

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Preferred: JRNY-E - Journeyman Electrician Upon Hire or
  • Preferred: JRNY-P - Journeyman Plumber Upon Hire or
  • Preferred: STE1 - Stationary Eng License 1st Grd Upon Hire or
  • Preferred: STE2 - Stationary Eng License 2nd Grd Upon Hire
