The Senior Physical Therapist Assistant - Outpatient - at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides advanced technical assistance to Licensed Physical Therapists and supports patient recovery and mobility through therapeutic interventions. This role directly impacts patient outcomes and quality of care across the continuum of rehabilitation services for patients in our outpatient clinic. 


Cancer and its treatments can sometimes have lasting effects on daily performance including physical, cognitive, emotional and social functioning. The Department of Rehabilitation Services has more than 100 oncology rehabilitation professionals and staff dedicated to optimizing the physical abilities and quality of life of people affected by cancer. Rehabilitation Services offers physical therapy and occupational therapy for patients of all ages and with any type of cancer who are experiencing problems related to cancer or the side effects of surgery, chemotherapy or radiation treatment. Rehabilitation services are available to all MD Anderson patients who need help regaining physical function.


The ideal candidate must have an Associate’s Degree from a Physical Therapist Assistant Program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association, at least three years of experience as a Physical Therapy Assistant, and hold a State of Texas PTA license issued by the Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners. The candidate must also maintain CPR certification.


Salary Range:
Minimum: $77,500 - Midpoint: $97,000 – Maximum: $116,500

Essential Job Functions:
•    Provide skilled physical therapy interventions under the direction of a Licensed Physical Therapist
•    Document service delivery and submit all required documentation according to department standards
•    Meet department productivity standards and demonstrate financial accountability in billing and resource conservation
•    Participate in maintenance of work area, departmental meetings, and education of students, support personnel, and other health care professionals
•    Participate in department performance improvement projects
•    Serve as a resource for junior staff and assist with complex cases as needed
•    Other duties as assigned

Education Required: Associate’s Degree from a Physical Therapist Assistant Program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association
Experience Required: Three years as a Physical Therapy Assistant
Licensure/Certification Required: Current license as a Physical Therapy Assistant or license to practice physical therapy in the state of Texas issued by Executive Council of Physical Therapy and Occupational Therapy Examiners. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR).
