Senior Research Assistant - Lymphoma Myeloma

The primary purpose of this position is to provide exceptional laboratory support and direct research assistance for the laboratory of Michael Green within the Department of Lymphoma and Myeloma. The incumbent provides skilled management of animal models, biospecimen management support, and laboratory assays, and is knowledgeable about proper animal and human subject research guidelines.

The ideal candidate will be a creative and proactive research professional with demonstrated ability to design and execute experimental approaches from conception to interpretation. They will be skilled in developing and refining laboratory techniques, assembling and operating specialized apparatus, and ensuring protocols remain state‑of‑the‑art. Collaborative and communicative, they will work closely with senior researchers and the Principal Investigator on reports and grant preparation. Additionally, they will provide effective supervision and mentoring of laboratory technicians, guiding tasks and supporting their development.

The hours are Monday through Friday 9-5p and 100% onsite

Salary range - Min - $51,500 Mid - $64,500 Max - $77,500

Job Specific Competencies

Animal Research & Laboratory Support (60%)

Demonstrates expertise in execution of animal experiments, including genetically engineered models (GEM) and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) model systems, especially within the context of industry-sponsored investigational drug studies.

Demonstrates experience and knowledge of Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) use protocols, including prior experience submitting, maintaining, and following established protocols.

Performs independent maintenance of GEM animal colonies, including colony maintenance, cross-breeding for new allele crosses and models, and strong recordkeeping for model verification.

Fluency in surgical procedures in accordance with IACUC guidelines for PDX model engraftment.

Experienced in long-term maintenance of PDX biospecimen repositories, including database and biospecimen management for distribution to academic and commercial partners.

Supervises laboratory personnel as required.

Human Subject Research Support (30%)

Independently identifies suitable biospecimen samples based on scientific rationale and assembles sample vials and manifests with 100% accuracy for sample distribution to internal and external research groups.

Demonstrates knowledge of human subjects research regulatory compliance, with specific knowledge of guidelines surrounding Protected Health Information (PHI) and institutional biospecimen safety regulations.

Demonstrates knowledge of Institutional Review Board (IRB) protocols, including prior experience submitting, maintaining, and following established protocols.

Laboratory Assays & Inventory Management (10%)

Responsible for conducting laboratory experiments in accordance with SOPs and training guidelines according to specifications of the Principal Investigator.

Maintains complete and accurate records of experiments and procedures in the designated laboratory notebook, digitally or electronically, at the direction of the Principal Investigator.

Maintains a clean and safe laboratory environment and complies with all Environmental Health and Safety regulations on a daily basis.

Maintains supplies, inventories, and completes other duties specified for the operation of a research laboratory.

EDUCATION

  • Required: Bachelor's Degree Natural sciences or related field.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree Basic sciences.
  • Preferred: Medical Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 3 years Scientific or experimental research work experience 
  • Required: 1 year Required experience with preferred degree.
  • PDX Models, cell lines, xenografts, animal experiment management, able to supervise other techs, dealing with archive samples, human subject research for regulatory component.
