The ideal candidate will have a strong background managing social media accounts in a communications environment.


Summary  

The primary purpose of the Senior Communications Specialist, Integrated Media position is to support MD Anderson’s social media strategy and program through faculty/expert-related social media/digital content development; posting to and monitoring organizational social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Doximity, YouTube, etc.; and education of faculty and staff on benefits and use of social media best practices.   

 

Key Functions 

 

  1. Social Media Program/Project Coordination: Works with MD Anderson experts to develop content for and post to organizational digital and social media accounts including Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Doximity, YouTube, Cancerwise and Cancer Frontline blogs, mdanderson.org, etc. Responsible for day-to-day posting, monitoring and response for organizational social media accounts. Addresses online customer service reviews/complaints through response and collaboration with Patient Advocacy, Risk Management, Legal Services, Human Resources and associated departments.



     

  2. Writing/Editing: Writes content for a variety of audiences interacting with MD Anderson’s social and digital properties through presentations, blog posts, infographics, animation scripts, and other materials. Clear, consistent writing and editing in all work products. Command of Associated Press and MD Anderson style. Proactively tracks down content ideas. Optimizes content for search engines.

  3. Strategic Counsel/Education: Acts as a consultant to MD Anderson experts and faculty members participating in social media. Develops training plans and educates faculty and staff on use of social media platforms and tools, as well as best practices. Develops and maintains relationships with client group(s) to better understand roles and processes. Routinely attends face-to-face meetings with client leadership, attends key customer meetings and is available for consultation, as needed. 

4.  Measurement: Tracks and analyzes success of digital communications, provides regular status reports and identifies as well as solves potential problems.

EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Digital Media or Radio/Television or related field. 
Preferred: Master's degree in English, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Digital Media or Radio/Television or related field. 

EXPERIENCE
Required: Four years of experience in public relations, communications, writing/editing or related field. With preferred Masters' degree, two years of required experience.
Preferred: Experience managing social media accounts.

 Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
