The Sr. Director position promotes and supports the mission of MD Anderson by supporting the stewardship and cultivation efforts of donors and prospective donors in order to deepen their philanthropic engagement with MD Anderson. The primary focus of the position is to elevate the donor relations program by developing and overseeing the implementation of a plan to increase the number of donors touched, ensure gift compliance activity is seamless, and expand methods of communication, improve quality, and deploy industry best practices. Additionally, the Sr. Director is responsible for developing and managing the team of individuals responsible for the stewardship and endowment compliance program and assist the Executive Director and the Sr. Associate Vice President as needed. This position works collaboratively with other Development Division teams, other institutional departments and The University of Texas System to advance the mission of MD Anderson.

 

KEY FUNCTIONS

 

Management of Donor Relations Program:

•         Develop and oversee the implementation of a plan to increase the number of donors touched, expand methods of communication, improve quality, and deploy industry best practices.

•         Collaborate with Philanthropic Engagement team members to execute a cohesive strategic plan to recognize, celebrate, express gratitude and demonstrate philanthropic impact to donors at all levels.

•         Operationalize new campaign-specific programs for principal giving donors.

•         Develop broad-based donor recognition programs.

•         Oversee efforts related to gift compliance, which narrative and financial reporting, and associated recognition.

•         Partner closely with Gift Operations to ensure effective stewardship of gift funds, including endowments.

•         Provide oversight for the Donor Reporting program, which includes anniversary and annual reporting initiatives.

•         Utilize technology to capture more in-depth donor engagement data that allows for deeper segmentation, solicitation and stewardship of key donor groups.

•         Provide oversight for the internal tracking systems integral to the donor relations/stewardship programs. 

 

Quality Assurance & Reporting:

•         Provide regular updates, reports and analyses to Development leadership on program execution, progress and performance.

•         Oversee quality control of all data points stemming from the program.

 

Management:

•         Provide management and guidance to the program team. Oversee vendors, consultants and committees associated with the execution of program activities.

•         Directly hires, trains, supervises and evaluates performance. Coordinates hiring efforts with Human Resources. Approves all offers for new hires.

•         Provide coaching, mentoring and opportunities for professional development to the program team.

•         Manage all personnel actions, including merit awards, leaves, promotions and terminations.

•         Lead a collegial and professional work environment that contributes to employee professional development

 

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related field.

Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field.

 

EXPERIENCE

Required: Seven years of experience in private fund development and two years of supervisory or managerial experience. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate program may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience.

Preferred: Ten years or more of experience in donor relations/stewardship, healthcare, higher education, communications or closely related field. Experience leading a donor relations team, building strong relationships with key institutional partners and participating in the workflow for donor relations staff to support a solicitation (or stewardship of) of a transformational gift.
