Stationary Engineer
The Research and Administrative Facilities (RAF) department manages the operations and maintenance of research and administrative buildings, including both the Bastrop and Smithville campuses. The RAF team also includes parking and transportation, audio visual and event operations, as well as the exterior site operations, all of which support all the Houston campuses and properties.

Ideal candidate will have a First or Second Grade Licensed Stationary Engineer as issued by the City of Houston, a valid Class A, B, or C Texas driver’s license and experience of 4 or more years working with boiler systems, chiller/cooling towers, and water treatment systems.
Position is a Monday – Friday 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
Salary Range: $57,500 - $72,000 - $86,500

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of the Stationary Engineer position is to provide skilled work in the operation of a central chilled water and steam system physical plant. This position impacts the maintenance of equipment and machinery within the institution.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs preventative maintenance, correctives and inspections on electric/steam boilers, chillers, cooling towers and associated pumps. Start up, coordinate equipment run scenarios, and monitor/troubleshoot chillers, towers and boilers via BAS system. Perform chemistry analysis, make necessary adjustments, data gathering and condition assessments on cooling tower, chilled water and boiler feed water. Perform testing, chemical treatment and preventative maintenance/correctives for Public Drinking Water System and associate assets. Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas.
JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Work Plan & Documentation Interprets and works from blueprints, sketches and diagrams. Estimates cost of work and may order materials and maintain inventory. Discusses issues, concerns and process improvement options with Sr. Stationary Engr and Supervisor. Responsible for completing work order and asset documentation according to CMMS Standards. Provides accurate information on labor hours & material used to complete the work, work preformed, notes any additional required work &/or asset information.
Preventive Maintenance Performs Preventive Maintenance on central plant equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications and CMMS directed work.
Corrective Maintenance Installs, maintains and repairs variety of central plant equipment plumbing work incidental to the installation and repair of electric/steam boilers, chillers, cooling towers, valves, steam lines, boilers, pipes, other equipment and associated pumps. The start up, coordinate equipment run scenarios, and monitor/troubleshoot chillers, towers and boilers via BAS system. Perform chemistry analysis, make necessary adjustments, data gathering and condition assessments on cooling tower, chilled water and boiler feed water. Perform testing, chemical treatment and preventative maintenance/correctives for Public Drinking Water System and associate assets. Cleans and maintains all equipment and work areas. Checks and changes charts, takes meter readings and analyzes water.
Team and Work Load Support Investigates outages, supports or preforms other work as necessary in the management the work load
On-Call The employee may be expected to be part of an on-call group, and when assigned this responsibility, will be compensated for that time. When on-call, the employee must be available and be able to respond in accordance to policy. Periods of alert when Emergency Conditions may be expected are not considered on-call.
Essential Personnel This position is considered “essential personnel” in the event of suspension of normal operations due to inclement weather or other emergencies. They are required to perform duties as outlined in the Emergency Management Plans.
Incidental Work Other incidental or related duties as required.

EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Vocational school or apprenticeship training.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 4 years Experience working with boiler systems, chiller/cooling towers, and/or water treatment systems in a large central physical plant.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Preferred: First or Second Grade Licensed Stationary Engineer as issued by the City of Houston.
- Preferred: Class D Water Operator license issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
- Preferred: UC-EPA - Universal Certification Universal Certification by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
- Preferred: TDL - Texas Drivers License Valid Class A, B or C Texas driver's license and eligible to drive State and institutional vehicles.
