Student Extern - Clinical Engineering
Summary:
Function: Provides auxiliary support and establishes support systems for Clinical Engineering staff relating to medical equipment maintenance.
Scope: Responsible for technical assistance on software, documentation and parts systems for maintenance and technical support functions on patient medical equipment and scientific instrumentation.
Provide auxiliary service & support for medical equipment
Conduct equipment electrical safety / performance assurance procedures to comply with regulatory / manufacturer’s specifications results under the direct supervision of Clinical Engineering staff as assigned. Physically receive, inventory, assemble, inspect, and conduct performance assurance with documented results under the direct supervision of Clinical Engineering staff as assigned.
Document all support activities performed
Assist in statistical analysis, data input and documentation updates for departmental needs. Using existing Computerized Equipment Management Software System (CEMMS); inventories, records, maintains data integrity standards within database. Responsible for entries in the equipment inventory database and to keep physical records of safe / operational equipment for patient care, updating the service history log with inspections including downtime, repairs and scheduled maintenance.
Inventory and catalog various aspects
Inventory and catalog manufacturer technical documentation. Staff can quickly locate technical manufacturer documentation to support medical equipment repair activity. Inventory and catalog medical equipment parts.
Other duties as assigned
Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent. College bound or in-college students.
Preferred Education: Associate's in Biomedical Equipment Technology (BMET), Electronics, Electrical Engineering or Bachelor's in Biomedical Equipment Technology (BMET), Electronics, Electrical Engineering and has completed Sophomore year of studies.
Required Experience: No experience required.
Preferred Experience: Some exposure to electrical or mechanical equipment. Experience in collecting data, report writing and spreadsheet operations.
Onsite Presence: Is Required
This position may be responsible for maintaining the security and integrity of critical infrastructure, as defined in Section 113.001(2) of the Texas Business and Commerce Code and therefore may require routine reviews and screening. The ability to satisfy and maintain all requirements necessary to ensure the continued security and integrity of such infrastructure is a condition of hire and continued employment.
