Supervisor, Clinical Coding
EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or related healthcare field. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management with specific training in medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, as well ICD 10 CM and CPT 4 coding. At least one year of experience with Evaluation & Management auditing.
EXPERIENCE
Required: Five years of coding in physician and/or academic healthcare organization to include three years of lead/supervisory experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred: Ten years supervisory experience at a teaching healthcare organization. Coding certification through the American Academy of Professional Coders or through the American Health Information Management Association. Coding & auditing experience in a multi-specialty teaching hospital. Bachelor’s Degree with three years of experience in CPT-4 and ICD-10 coding, with two years to include Evaluation & Management auditing skills, and three years supervisory experience may substitute for the required five years of experience.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION
Required: One or more of the following:
• Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
• Certified Professional Coder - Hospital (CPC-H) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
• Certified Professional Coder - Associate (CPC-A) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
Preferred: One or more of the following:
• Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Certified Coding Associate (CCA) by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).
• Certified Professional Coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
• Certified Professional Coder - Hospital (CPC-H) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
• Certified Professional Coder - Associate (CPC-A) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC).
