Join MD Anderson as a Transfusion Services Operations Support Specialist and play a critical role in supporting the day-to-day operations of our Transfusion Medicine/Blood Bank department. You’ll help ensure the department has the blood products, reagents, supplies, equipment, and technology needed to support safe, efficient, and timely patient care at one of the world’s leading cancer centers.

The ideal candidate will have blood bank experience and be MLS ASCP or BB ASCP certified

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES 

Oversee Operational needs of the Department.​  
​- Ensures and verify inventory, supplies, reagent and blood products are appropriate for the operational needs of the department. 
- Ensures all received items are suitable for use in patient testing and communicates with vendors directly to trouble shoot issues 
- Follows section’s inventory control system to assure effective use of supplies and reagents. 
- Complies with all manufacture guidelines and regulatory standards regarding equipment management and maintenance practices. 
- Complies with safety guidelines and procedures and adheres to regulatory mandates. 
- Serves as the primary liaison for reagent and blood product inventory ordering and issues and proactively communicates to vendors and leadership. 
- Maintains and troubleshoots laboratory equipment and documentation systems. 
- Serves as Subject matter expert in Lab Information System and equipment tracking system, and computer functions in assigned areas.

Enhances productivity and laboratory lab functions by demonstrating dependability.​  
​- Adjusts, prioritizes, and organizes work to achieve maximum productivity to meet the workload demands of the section. 
- Assists peers and leadership with tasks after completion of assigned work. 
- Adheres to attendance policy, begins work as scheduled. 
- Works independently, utilizes resources available to maximize efficiency.​

Customer Service​   ​
- Manages all customer service interactions with diplomacy, actively facilitating resolutions to problems and addressing the needs of clients both internal and external.​

Computer Skills ​   ​
- Maintains proficiency in computer functions in the lab processes. 
- Maintain up to date records of all equipment, maintenance and quality control in recording system.

Education

Required:
• Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology OR
• Bachelor's Degree in a related science field or Molecular Genetic Technology OR
• Successful completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetics Technology accredited program

Preferred:
• Master’s Degree in a related science field
• Doctorate in a related science field

Work Experience

Required:
• 10 years of clinical laboratory experience with an Associate's Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology OR
• 9 years of clinical laboratory experience with a Bachelor's Degree in a related science field OR
• 8 years of clinical laboratory experience with completion of a National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS) accredited Clinical Laboratory Science/Molecular Genetic Technology accredited program

Preferred:
• 6 years of clinical laboratory experience with a Master’s Degree OR
• 4 years of clinical laboratory experience with a Doctorate degree OR
• 3 years of blood banking experience

Licenses and Certifications

Preferred (upon hire):
• MLS-ASCP – Medical Lab Scientist, American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry (BOR) OR
• MT – Medical Technologist, American Medical Technologists (AMT) OR
• MDT – Molecular Diagnostics Tech, American Medical Technologists (AMT) OR
• SBB – Specialist in Blood Banking, American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP) Board of Registry (BOR)
