Administrative Assistant - Clinical Decision Unit
The Administrative Assistant at MD Anderson Cancer Center provides complex administrative and secretarial support to ensure department efficiency and productivity. This role directly impacts operational effectiveness and supports the Clinical Decision Unit team in delivering exceptional patient care.
The ideal candidate must have a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of administrative/secretarial experience, preferably a Bachelor’s degree. The candidate must be available to work on-site, Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM.
The Clinical Decision Unit (CDU) is an outpatient unit that provides observation services to patients who do not meet admission criteria. It is a designated 16-bed medical unit where adult patients in need of additional monitoring, diagnostic evaluation, and/or treatment may be placed while a clinical decision is being made to admit the patient for hospitalization or discharge the patient for further care. The CDU is available for patient care 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.
Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $41,000 - Midpoint $51,000 - Maximum $61,000

Essential Job Functions:
• Perform routine administrative and secretarial duties
• Type abstracts and manuscripts according to specific grant formats
• Maintain calendar for physician/supervisor
• Take, prepare, and distribute meeting minutes
• Make travel arrangements and prepare expense reports
• Maintain complex confidential patient and/or general office files
• Arrange conferences including booking rooms, catering, and equipment
• Compile reports and compose formal and informal correspondence
• Create and format presentations
• Coordinate human resources activities for the department, including processing confidential paperwork and maintaining records
• Monitor and balance company center budget activity, including account review, cost projections, and status reports
• Ensure timely submission of required reports/documents for manuscripts and grants
• May coordinate faculty recruitment, training, or schedules for graduate students and visiting fellows
• Supervise work distribution and processing for clerical area
• Other duties as assigned
Education Required: High school diploma or equivalent
Education Preferred: Bachelor’s degree
Experience Required: Four years of administrative/secretarial experience; with preferred degree, no experience required
Experience Preferred: With Bachelor’s degree, at least one year of administrative/secretarial experience.

Other Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources
