Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant - Dermatology
The Dermatology department is dedicated to excellence in patient care, research, and education, supported by a highly collaborative and multidisciplinary team. We include 18 full-time faculty, part-time and volunteer faculty, advanced practice providers, dermatology residents, and research fellows, along with a strong ancillary staff that plays a vital role in daily operations.

The Dermatology department emphasizes multidisciplinary care, with close collaboration across Medical, Surgical, and Radiation Oncology, Plastic Surgery, Head and Neck Surgery, Ophthalmology, and Stem Cell Transplantation. Our dermatologists are also key consultants for complex conditions such as graft‑vs.-host disease, skin infections, and drug‑related rashes.

The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) in the Department of Dermatology at MD Anderson Cancer Center delivers high-quality patient care as part of a collaborative team of oncodermatologists working closely with medical oncology, surgery, and other specialties. In addition to providing direct medical care within the scope of practice and training, the APP supports the evaluation and management of patients participating in clinical research protocols. The APP provides direct medical services to patients based on the education, training, and experience of the physician assistant, as delegated by the supervising physician, and in accordance with policies established by the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff, the regulations of the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and applicable state laws.
KEY FUNCTIONS:
· Perform comprehensive history and physical examinations for new, consult, and follow-up patients
· Collaborate with supervising physicians, residents and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement care plans
· Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging, and lab work
· Document clinical encounters clearly via dictation or manual entry
· Perform minor outpatient procedures (e.g., wound care, skin and oral biopsies, cultures, suturing)
· Prescribe and manage immunotherapy treatments
· Support patients on systemic agents for cutaneous disease
· Provide thorough patient and family education effectively and concisely
· Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams across the institution
· Participate in education, research, and administrative initiatives as needed
· Other duties as assigned

EDUCATION
- Required: Master's Degree Accredited Physician Assistant (PA) program by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA), except for Physician Assistants who graduated from a PA program prior to 2013.
- Master's Degree in Nursing or Doctor of Nursing Practice. May be waived for applicants who obtained recognition as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse from the Texas State Board of Nursing prior to 1/1/2003. Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
