Art Collections Manager
The Art Experience Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center enriches healing by integrating art into patient care, creating multisensory environments that foster comfort, inspiration, and well-being. The Art Collection Manager plays a vital role in advancing MD Anderson’s healing environment through the care, management, and expansion of its distinguished art collection. Working in collaboration with the Associate Vice President (AVP), Curator, and Project Coordinator, this position supports the Art Experience program by overseeing day‑to‑day collection operations. Responsibilities include ensuring excellence in installation, conservation, and administration, as well as collaborating across departments to integrate art into the patient and staff experience.
The ideal candidate will have experience managing collection databases, working in a museum or with a large corporate art collection, and tracking artwork throughout the acquisition process to ensure accurate documentation and inventory control.
This role requires on‑site work at various locations as needed, with the possibility of hybrid work when appropriate.

Key Functions
- Collection Management: Oversee and maintain the art collection database, tracking location, history, condition, and valuation of all collection objects.
- Installation & Maintenance: Manage logistics for art moves and installations, including shipping, packing, condition reporting, and storage monitoring.
- Project Oversight: Support art procurement processes, track construction projects and budgets, and develop project workflows in collaboration with the AVP and Curator as well as manage deaccession projects and establish conservation priorities.
- Risk & Compliance: Partner with Enterprise Risk, Asset Management, and Capital Accounting to ensure accurate records, insurance coverage, and appraisals.
- Policy & Process Development: Establish, document, and refine policies and procedures that protect and promote the integrity of the collection.
- Content & Engagement: Manage digital content for the MD Anderson art app and website, and contribute to educational initiatives and public programming.
Team Leadership: Collaborate with the Preparator, Administrative Program Coordinator, and interns to execute projects efficiently and uphold departmental standards.

Additional Responsibilities
- Conduct artwork condition assessments and oversee proper storage and display environments.
- Lead orientation and records management activities to uphold data and documentation standards.
- Support curatorial tasks, procurement processes, and invoice management.
- Participate in business continuity and other departmental initiatives as assigned.
Education
Required: Bachelor's Degree Art History, Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Fine Art, Studio Art, or related.
Preferred: Master's Degree Art History, Museum Studies, Arts Administration, Fine Art, Studio Art, or related.
Experience
Required: Five years Art collections management or art registrar experience
