Reporting to the President, the position will champion quality, align providers to reduce variation of care, foster clinical effectiveness and implement a culture of excellence. Works with organizational leaders to create a sense of ‘systemness’ removing silos and building integration across the continuum of care.  Partners with the Chief Operations Officer (COO) to lead the hospital’s continuing emphasis on high-value, safe patient care through oversight of all aspects of physician performance, quality and clinical integration. 


The Chief Medical Executive (CME) will work closely in a dyad relationship with the COO to drive process improvements focused on innovation and operational models designed to improve clinical services, outcomes, and promote a patient-centered environment.


 Provides strategic and operational input to transform the delivery of care creating a more consistent patient experience by enhancing clinical integration and care coordination across the clinical enterprise.

 Leads the development and implementation of a Physician and Advance Practice Provider Engagement Strategy; key focus areas will include professional development, leadership development, accountability and the promotion of mission driven clinical research, in collaboration with the Chief Scientific Officer (CSO).


Aligns Division Heads, Chairs and other faculty leadership to strategic and operational initiatives. Manages accountabilities and role models strong clinical and administrative partnerships.


 Serves as a partner with other senior executives in the development of an expansion strategy including those with our Cancer Network partners, helping to differentiate MDACC as the market leader in the delivery of patient centered, high value cancer care in both the community and academic settings.


 Partners with the Chief Academic Officer to enhance and develop programs focused on the health, wellness, and personal and professional development of physicians.


 Acts as a positive change agent, respecting the culture while challenging the status quo.


Requirements:
  • MD/DO with applicable board certification. Master’s Degrees in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration preferred.
  • Five years of progressive leadership experience in  academic healthcare
  • Academic rank at the level of Professor
  • Highly-effective leader with strong emotional intelligence (EQ), drive, commitment to personal leadership development and high standards of professionalism. 
  •  Experience in a leadership role within a complex academic healthcare environment.
  • Strong operational and financial acumen with the ability to lead and partner around a vision for outstanding healthcare delivery.
