Associate's degree in Health Information Management. Two years of coding experience in a medical services environment or one year as a Clinical Coding Associate at M D Anderson Cancer Center . May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis and no experience required with preferred degree.
Licensure/Certification:
Reqired: One or more of the following from the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) or the American Academy of Professioanl Coders (AAPC)

Required: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.

- Certified Professional Coder - Hosptial (CPC-H) by AAPC
- Certified Professional Coder - Associate (CPC-A) by AAPC
Preferred: One or more of the following coding certifications:
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) by AHIMA
- Certified Coding Specialist-Physician (CCS-P) by AHIMA
- Certified Coding Specialist-Associate (CCA) by AHIMA
