The Division of Clinical Research provides high-quality, efficient infrastructure support for all aspects of clinical protocol research at MD Anderson. This position is essential in guiding the cancer center’s Clinical Trial Management Systems (CTMS) platform and its integrations across enterprise clinical, research, and financial systems. The Clinical Research Systems Manager ensures ensures the integrity, availability, and appropriate use of CTMS data across the clinical trial lifecycle while leading complex technical projects that advance research efficiency, compliance, and reporting capabilities.

The Clinical Research Systems Manager plays a central role in advancing research operations and supporting compliance within a highly regulated academic cancer environment. The Clinical Research Systems Manager will influence system architecture, optimization, and governance across a wide spectrum of clinical research activities.

The ideal candidate brings a bachelor’s degree, extensive experience in database or technology support within a clinical research environment, and several years of supervisory or management experience.

Minimum $51.20 – Midpoint $63.94 – Maximum $76.68

The typical work schedule is 100% remote.

Responsibilities

CTMS Technical & Research Workflow
• Align CTMS capabilities with institutional strategy, regulatory requirements, and operational needs.
• Provide expert guidance on CTMS enhancements, upgrades, and technical optimization.
• Oversee CTMS database connections and integrations with EHR, IRB, financial, data warehouse, and reporting systems.
• Design and maintain interoperable workflows using HL7, FHIR, APIs, flat files, and related mechanisms.
• Partner with IT, research administration, and vendors to monitor interface performance and troubleshoot issues.
• Establish standards for data validation, reconciliation, exception handling, and audit readiness.
• Manage end-to-end CTMS workflows including activation, accrual, visit tracking, coverage analysis, billing, and closeout.
• Ensure integrations support regulatory reporting, sponsor deliverables, and institutional metrics.
• Lead governance for interface changes, system releases, and data-freeze events.

Project & Portfolio Management
• Lead CTMS-focused projects such as upgrades, interface implementations, workflow redesigns, and reporting initiatives.
• Develop project plans, timelines, risks, and resource allocations with research, clinical, and IT teams.
• Communicate project status, risks, and outcomes to leadership and governance committees.

Team Leadership & Staff Development
• Supervise and mentor technical and systems staff supporting CTMS operations and integrations.
• Oversee troubleshooting of complex system and data issues.
• Set performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and support staff development.
• Promote strong documentation, change management, and quality assurance practices.

Compliance, Governance & Quality
• Ensure CTMS configurations and integrations comply with institutional policies, federal regulations, sponsor requirements, and data-security standards including 21 CFR Part 11.
• Develop and maintain SOPs for CTMS configuration, interfaces, governance, and change control.
• Support audits, inspections, and internal reviews through documentation and validation evidence.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION
• Required: Bachelor's degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

• Required: Seven years of experience in database or technology support in a clinical research setting to include four years of supervisory/management experience.

May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis; Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience; Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
• Preferred: Certified PMI – Project Management Professional (PMP)
