SUMMARY

The primary purpose of the Database Coordinator position is to organize the development, utilization and maintenance of clinical research data in accordance with the needs and objectives of the department’s user.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
 

Database Design and Management  

  • Develops and manages databases as needed to meet the clinical research and business needs.  Support day-to-day operations and use of the databases.
  • Provides technical support and isolates and resolves issues affecting the database as a whole, or in part, and evaluate existing applications and suggest improvements. 
  • Analyzes database software needs and determines the best available method for satisfying those needs.  Adapts, implements, and maintains acquired database software.
  • Designs new tools to support management of data - documents and validates before implementation and when changes are made.

Data Extraction, Cleaning, and Reporting/Data Monitoring

  • Assists in maintaining integrity of database(s) and other data through routine analysis of data capture quality and compliance. Report variances to Department Users.
  • Extracts and cleans data from various databases.  Troubleshoot problems with existing databases, queries, reports, and forms.  Resolve data conflicts and assists and advises others with data analysis.
  • Effectively manages the ongoing production of scheduled reports as well as ad hoc requests in a timely fashion. Provides reports upon request.
  • Uses data curation/reporting software, such as Excel, Redcap, and/or other web-based spreadsheet programs, etc. to interpret data and generate data files or reports in the format requested by teams/customers.
  • Uses ancillary software, such as Excel, Redcap, etc. to generate reports, charts and graphs to meet Department, Program, and institutional reporting needs.

Other duties as assigned.  

Required Education:

Bachelor's degree in a related field.

Required Experience:

Three years of experience in business management systems, including one year as an experienced programmer or one year working with a database software system. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience.

Preferred Experience:

Prior/current data extraction, cleaning, and reporting experience – particularly working with Excel, REDCap to interpret and generate reports as requested, prior/current programming and database design and management experience, experience in understanding basic statistics. Clear, consistent, and thorough communication verbally and written, proper responsiveness and follow-up/through of technical data and system issues.
