SUMMARY

The Director, Continuing Professional Education will maintain MD Anderson’s ACCME accreditation and its ability to certify education activities for CME and other accredited continuing education credit, and to provide overall direction in the development and implementation of all continuing education activities and services within Education and Training. 

Services include but are not restricted to: 

-Educational activity and product development

-Activity evaluation, conference management

-Certification and documentation of educational activities and educational materials

Compliance 

-Establishes and implements policies and procedures designed to assure that MD Anderson is compliant with the guidelines for awarding AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM, established by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), as well as guidelines/regulations established by MD Anderson, American Medical Association, State and Federal Governments, and Pharma Code, created by commercial interests - pharmaceutical, medical equipment and hospital supply companies.
-Utilizes clinical and education expertise in offering accredited Inter-professional Continuing Education (IPCE) for Physicians, Nurses, APPs, and Pharmacists that exceeds ACCME Joint Accreditation rules and criteria.
-Reviews, modifies, and provides guidance/recommendations to MD Anderson program organizers that are sponsoring activities which will meet the guidelines and policies established by MD Anderson as well as other outside entities to meet compliance requirements and reduce commercial bias and MD Anderson’s financial liability.
-Reviews, modifies as needed, approves, and executes all commercial interests’ letters of agreement for exhibits and grants of $75,000 and under, all legal agreements with third party educational partners, and agreements to purchase services or products of $25,000 and under.
-Prepares reports for health care entities such as ACCME, AMA, TJC as well as other specialized ad hoc reports needed by MD Anderson faculty and staff.

Conference Management 

-Establishes and maintains a liaison with faculty, staff, third party educational partners, and commercial interest partners to meet educational goals of MD Anderson.
-By planning and implementing continuing education activities that will assist physicians and other healthcare professionals in maintaining their competency and enlarging their scope of knowledge and skills.
-By developing and implementing strategies, policies, and procedures for the successful management of institutional conferences, regularly scheduled series, enduring materials, and performance improvement activities in live, virtual, computer-based, and paper-based formats.
-By evaluating all CME-awarded activities, including development and reporting of outcomes results to appropriate stakeholders.

Personnel Management  

-Supervises and manages associate director, managers, coordinators, and support personnel within CME/Conference Management and performs any additional duties/tasks as needed within CME/Conference Management.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience: Five years successful experience in continuing education, education design and development of continuing education programs, meeting planning and management, and administrative experience in managing education programs in a health care environment.  Three years progressive managerial experience.

Experience in utilizing the Cloud CME platform to implement accredited CE.

Experience in ACCME Joint Accreditation (or 2 or the following:  ACPE, AMA, ACEN).

  • Preferred Experience: Ten years successful experience in continuing education, education design and development of continuing education programs, meeting planning and management, and administrative experience in managing education programs in a health care environment.  Seven years of this time must be in a supervisory/management function.
  • Required Education:  Master's Degree
  • Preferred Education: Master's Degree as defined by the Texas Board of Nursing (BON) or Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Nurse or Physician Assistant, or Pharm.D degree.
  • Preferred Certification: CHCP, CMP, Written authorization from the Texas Board of Nursing (BON), Texas State Board of Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE), or Texas State Board of Pharmacy to function as an Advanced Practice Nurse, Physician Assistant, or Pharmacist.
  • Onsite Presence is required.
