The mission of The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

The primary purpose of the Division Administrator position is to direct and oversee various divisional and departmental administrative activities related to academia and professional services. At the division level this position will administratively oversee all divisional academic strategies in conjunction with the VP Diagnostic Operations and at the direction of the DI Executive Staff (DIES), The Education Functional Committee, The Faculty Functional Committee, and the Research Functional Committee. 

The position will directly oversee clinical and translational research, and the non-clinical operations components of the Center for Advanced Biomedical Imaging (CABI).  The position will have administrative oversight over and provide support for Departmental activities such as faculty support, professional practice management, research and educational programs. The incumbent will demonstrate and utilize independent situation analysis and precise decision-making skills.  


KEY FUNCTIONS

Strategy, Quality & Programs

1.    Provides administrative leadership for the academic components of the division in implementing the strategic initiatives related to the components. 
2.    Strategize with the Division Head, the VP Diagnostic Operations, the Academic Chairs and the Deputy Division Head for Research to develop plans for divisional growth, as it relates to academic and research components, for new technology, program differentiation and management, and ongoing administrative programs that will enhance faculty and staff motivation, growth. 
3.    Provides oversight for ensuring strategies for process improvement initiatives are implemented in a timely fashion across the academic departments and research operations.
4.    Oversees initiatives for the Service, Quality, and Safety Culture of the academic departments and programs in the division including collaboration with faculty and staff leaders to ensure adherence and commitment to improving patient and staff safety, engagement and service excellence.
5.    Oversees the metric development and improvement for the professional services and the academic programs in the division.
6.    Oversees the integration and utilization of professional and academic data from various data sources to implement process improvements.
7.    Oversees and leads the academic and research department leaders on activities associated with ensuring compliance with institutional and divisional accreditation standards. 
8.    Oversees the maintenance of the emergency preparedness plan and environmental and safety manual for the professional and academic components of the Division. Coordinates with other emergency preparedness officers, communication, monitoring and implementation of the division’s emergency plan.
9.    Develops and fosters business, professional and academic relationships with division and departmental managers to support operational projects across disciplines and departments. 
10.    Performs other duties as assigned.  

Faculty Support and Relations

1.    Coordinates with and provides input to the Department Chairs and Administrators for faculty recruitment by developing staffing plans, validating estimated salary and source of support, space allocation, personnel support and research funding.
2.    In Collaboration with the academic department leaders and the divisional promotions and tenure committee, oversees the division’s faculty recruitment, credentialing, promotion, and salary administration.  Must work closely with the Offices of the Chief Medical Executive, the Chief Academic Officer and the Chief Scientific Officer in coordinating recruitment and maintaining the schedule for evaluations, tenure and promotion.
3.    Provides guidance to faculty members regarding issues of concern related to space, financial resources, and HR-related issues and assist them in obtaining required needs.
4.    Directs recruitment of selected candidate(s) to include oversight of the implementation of the offer package with regard to space, personnel and financial resources.
5.    Oversees department administrators in their development of business plans for faculty positions and programs.
6.    Assists Department Chairs and Department Administrators as needed in problem solving patient care issues as they relate to the professional practice.
7.    Through Divisional and Departmental channels, informs faculty of current policies and procedures and ensures compliance.
8.    Meets with faculty leaders on an individual on-going basis to insure appropriate and open communication channels. Round in faculty work areas and obtain feedback on needs.
9.    Oversees that the Division’s overall administrative staffing plan and organization, that policies and procedures are in place to maintain well-functioning offices, that all new employees are oriented, and that technology needs are met. 
10.    Facilitates an advocacy position for the faculty and staff regarding actions necessary to the success of their individual research and/or clinical programs. 

Administrative

1.    Oversees compliance of all faculty, academic departments and sections with institutional human resource policies and procedures, e.g. mandatory trainings, annual TB screenings, licensures, etc.
2.    Establish with the VP of Diagnostic Operations, the Division Head, and the DIES standards of performance to meet departmental and divisional needs and institutional core values.
3.    Develops, in conjunction with divisional leaders and coordinators, policies and procedures affecting Human Resources/personnel activities, assuring they are consistent with institutional policy and assuring that all relevant divisional employees are informed.  

Education

1.    Ensures the educational components of Diagnostic Imaging are aligned with divisional and departmental strategies and resources.
2.    Integrates the division’s education strategic action plan with faculty and staff as appropriate. Provides linkages between education, research and faculty functional committees.
3.    Coordinates physical resource utilization with department administrators including space planning, inventory and property control as it relates to educational activities.
4.    Oversees the consolidation and integration of activities involved with the visitor and trainee programs.

 
EDUCATION 

Required:  Master’s degree in business, Hospital/Healthcare Administration or related field.


EXPERIENCE

Required: Minimum Seven years of progressive leadership experience in an academic medical center. 

Preferred:  9-12 years of experience in a leadership role in an academic medical center to include direct experience developing, coordinating and promoting diagnostic imaging and image guided interventional programs. 

Experience with grants and contracts management, research administration, operations management, and physician practice management.
