Financial Analyst - Ofc of EVP &Chief Clin Ops Ofc
The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is a leading institution focused on cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Financial Analyst role supports the Social Work department by providing comprehensive financial management, operational reporting, reconciliation, forecasting, and fiscal stewardship services that enable effective management of departmental resources and donor funds.
Within UT MD Anderson, the Financial Analyst serves as a key financial partner to department leadership, helping guide budgeting, reporting, compliance, process improvement, and data-driven decision making. The Financial Analyst collaborates closely with operational and finance stakeholders to support sound fiscal management and institutional objectives.
The ideal candidate for this Financial Analyst role holds a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, business administration, healthcare administration, or a related field and brings experience in financial management, budgeting, forecasting, reconciliation, operational reporting, and financial analysis. Preferred experience includes supporting clinical operations within a healthcare environment, developing financial reports and dashboards, and utilizing tools such as Excel, Power BI, SmartView, PeopleSoft, OBIEE, and CRM systems. Strong communication, collaboration, analytical, and process improvement skills are highly valued.

Responsibilities
Financial Management & Operational Reporting
• Produce monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports including free balance, personnel trending, account balances, transfers, and corrective actions by fund group • Review expenditures for compliance with institutional policies and procedures across departmental funds • Oversee preparation of the annual department budget and verify accurate budget loading • Monitor budget performance throughout the fiscal year and analyze trends impacting fiscal goals • Review and verify monthly financial closeout activities for internal control compliance • Develop projection models, rolling forecasts, databases, and reporting tools • Process departmental donations and provide financial reporting to department and finance leadership • Recommend fund utilization strategies and productivity enhancements • Design custom reports to identify, analyze, and track operational and financial variances • Advise leadership on spending trends, goals, financial concerns, and mitigation strategies
Account Maintenance & Reconciliation
• Manage financial and reconciliation activities for designated department accounts • Perform monthly CRM reconciliations for donor funds and maintain financial integrity controls • Ensure appropriate segregation of duties and compliance with internal controls • Collaborate with Social Work and finance leadership on fund planning and fiscal management • Resolve accounting transaction and reconciliation issues with institutional stakeholders • Prepare quarterly and annual donor reports and assist with grant and contract closeouts • Identify funding gaps and present resource opportunities to leadership • Initiate account setups, purchase order requests, account closeouts, FACT table maintenance, NSCTs, and IDTs • Review pro-card reconciliations, monitor deadlines, and verify appropriate expense reallocations • Participate in institutional audits and submit statistical sample reconciliations for compliance
Fiscal Operations Support
• Review Concur expense requests to confirm funding availability and proper chart field usage • Oversee fund stewardship and ensure expenditures are appropriate and allowable • Support billing optimization efforts through collaboration with other departments and divisions • Review purchase requisitions, invoice vouchers, reimbursement requests, and open purchase orders • Monitor for unauthorized purchases and assist with corrective actions • Communicate fund balances, usage requirements, and closeout activities to leadership • Maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders • Demonstrate strong organizational, follow-up, and problem-resolution skills
Financial Education, Resource & Support
• Serve as a collaborative financial partner to Social Work leadership and staff • Develop an understanding of departmental operations, programs, and financial needs • Create ad hoc and routine financial reports using Excel, PowerPoint, PeopleSoft, OBIEE, CRM, and related systems • Provide responsive financial guidance and support to stakeholders • Assist users with understanding financial processes, reporting, and account management • Support informed decision making through accurate reporting and analysis
Process Improvement & Informatics Analysis
• Create analytics and projections forecasting fund usage over extended periods • Analyze clinical, financial, demographic, and statistical information • Conduct qualitative and quantitative analyses, including financial, cost-benefit, and revenue analyses • Analyze, calculate, and report data from multiple sources • Design spreadsheets, databases, presentations, charts, and graphs supporting budget reporting • Develop and support reporting of key measurements, trends, and benchmarks • Prepare and distribute recurring and ad hoc reports • Coordinate with stakeholders to ensure reporting accuracy and quality • Track projects, milestones, and progress through customized reporting tools • Identify process gaps and develop solutions that strengthen financial oversight and reconciliation processes
EDUCATION
- Required: Bachelor's Degree Business Administration or related business specialty.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 2 years Business experience to include project management, data analysis or accounting.
