The primary purpose of the Glassware Technician is to provide assistance to the research departments within the Institution by pickup, delivery, cleaning and sterilizing of glass-ware and plastic-ware, liquids and special equipment used by research laboratories within the institution in general and within their assigned areas in specific. The Glassware Technician is responsible for maintaining a timely pickup and delivery schedule of processed items and daily documentation, updates and recordkeeping recording this process and acting as a steward and maintaining the glassware facility and immediate work areas in a clean, sanitary state and direct compliance to all MDACC safety rules.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES:

Laboratory pick-up and delivery: 
* Pick-up and delivery of glassware in assigned areas within the institution.  Understands the safety implications involved in handling laboratory glassware.  Communicates effectively with laboratory personnel concerning SOP for glassware processing.

Glassware washing: 
* Hand and machine washing and drying of laboratory glassware, plastic ware and media bottles in adherence with the strict guidelines of cleanliness and quality control. Perform titrations to obtain the optimal concentrations required to maintain laboratory material efficacy.

Sterilize glassware and supplies:
* Wrapping and sterilizing of laboratory glassware ensuring sterile procedures are followed, for supplies and liquid reagents needed by research departments in assigned area.  Operate autoclaves and ovens in a safe and effective manner. Cross-training on all Institutional Glassware Equipment.

Record-Keeping: 
* Assist in keeping accurate daily production logs of glassware and autoclave activity.  Ensure that Special Requests are accurately carried out and correctly recorded in preparation for entry into the lab database.

Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: 
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent

EXPERIENCE:
Required: None. 
Preferred: Experience in sterile technique and/or laboratory glassware cleaning.
