 The Grants & Contracts Analyst serves as a member of a team of professionals in the MD Anderson Cancer Center (MDACC) Grants & Contracts Office (G&C), responsible for managing day-to-day post-award / financial administrative / data and agreement support tasks for sponsored projects and providing subject matter expertise in Subrecipient Monitoring to junior, mid, and senior-level employees as well as departmental leadership in G&C. The Grants & Contracts Analyst is responsible for ensuring financial and non-financial compliance with Federal and sponsor regulations and Institutional policies.


The Grants & Contracts Analyst collaborates with pre-award and departmental staff in the financial management of the MDACC’s grants and contracts to ensure excellent customer service to researchers, administrators and sponsors and effective stewardship of sponsor funds. The “Grants & Contracts Analyst – Subrecipient Monitoring” provides guidance, training and quality assurance to all levels of Grants & Contracts Analysts responsible for performing the day-to-day tasks related to sponsored projects and serves as a resource across multiple teams. This position will have responsibility for oversight of Subrecipient Monitoring.  The individual will work closely with G&C managers to ensure the success of their teams and overall G&C operations. Additionally, this position supports and contributes to special projects and related efforts as necessary.


Key Functions



  • Perform a variety of complex analytical activities to ensure compliance with various accounting principles, sponsor requirements, federal and state guidelines, and institutional policies.  

  • Assist with the development and modification of policies/procedures/systems in accordance with government regulations and organizational needs and objectives

  • Assist in preparations for external monitoring visits, reviews, and audits, and cross-site evaluations and participate as appropriate.

  • Establish and maintain electronic and hard copy files for each grant-funded project to be used for tracking and reporting purposes.

  • Conduct routine compliance reviews of grant programs.

  • Oversee invoicing practices and ensure that subrecipient invoicing conforms to institutional policy and standards of the OMB Uniform Guidance.

  • Interface with stakeholders/user departments to provide sound advice and recommendations regarding budgeting and terms and conditions options.

  • Ensure subrecipient monitoring procedures are compliant with federal and other applicable regulations and are consistent with sound business practices.

  • Monitor subrecipient compliance with federal regulations and the requirements of their subrecipient agreements through site visits, audits, and other mechanisms applicable to subrecipient monitoring. Recommend actions necessary to resolve issues/concerns.

  • Provide guidance in interpreting and executing applicable regulations and subrecipient award terms and conditions.

  • Work with Principal Investigators, Division and Department Administration and Sponsors to provide excellent customer service and resolve complex issues related to sponsored programs management.

  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and funding terms and conditions through development and implementation of review/monitoring procedures and assist with follow-up and resolution of all audit findings and responses that relate to Award/Financial/Data and Agreement Management.

  • Ensure provision of customer service assistance to outside agencies in the ongoing administration of grants and contracts.

  • Keep up-to-date on sponsor requirements, institutional policies, and state and federal regulations, and assist with the development and implementation of policies and procedures related to sponsored programs management.

  • Take ownership of or support special projects; collaborate with Grants & Contracts management to understand key goals of projects and impact across MDACC units or departments; communicate progress to stakeholders.

  • Other duties as assigned.





Required: Two years business experience to include administration, data analysis or accounting.


  • Two to three years of Post-award experience

  • PeopleSoft ERP and Grants Module preferred

  • Administrative/business experience in an academic medical center research setting 



Required: Bachelor's degree.

Preferred: Master’s degree in a related field (e.g., business, accounting, or public administration)  


May substitute required experience with additional years of education on a one to one year basis.
