Medical Assistant (CMA or RMA) - Stem Cell Transplantation Center
MD Anderson Cancer is seeking an experienced Medical Assistant to join our team. The Stem Cell Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Center is one of the largest facilities in the world for stem cell transplants. As part of one the nation’s top cancer centers, we provide comprehensive stem cell transplant services. These include a clinic dedicated to monitoring and managing graft versus host disease, a condition that can arise from stem cell transplantation; and a matched unrelated donor program, which has earned us recognition as a specialized center for stem cell transplants by the National Marrow Donor Program.
The Ideal candidate will have at least one year of Medical Assistant experience. CMA or RMA certification is preferred but not required. Ideal candidates are organized, strong communicators, and flexible, with a preference for those who have clinic experience. The schedule is Monday-Friday 8 hour shift, varied hours between 7am-6pm (based on clinic needs).

KEY FUNCTIONS
Patient Care:
• Assists with patient examinations, treatments and procedures. Assists nurses with preparing clinics for the day. Perform positive patient identification. Position patient as needed for appropriate procedures.
• Prepare exam rooms prior to patients’ arrival. Escorts patients into the room along with required paperwork to facilitate clinic visit. Complete rooming process.
• Obtains vital signs and prepares patients for physician's care. Notifies nurse of abnormal parameters.
• Documents accurately in the medical record patient care entries, rooming, vital signs, allergies, falls, pain level, ePNA, Travel questionnaire.
• Reviews and sorts incoming faxes and forwards reports to clinical team for review.
Procedures:
• Collects and transports laboratory specimens. Instructs patients as to test preparations according to planned procedure.
• Perform procedures within your scope of practice
• Complete opening and closing activities. Prepare room for procedures. Take admission folders to inpatient. Utilize downtime effectively and appropriate
• Room Maintenance Upkeep of all clinic rooms.
• Clean, stock, prepares and coordinates maintenance of exam rooms, medical supplies and equipment. Maintains inventories of medical supplies. Reports any equipment in need of environmental maintenance to Nurse Manager, CAD or CBM and call for repair. Maintaining a safe environment. Participate in time out procedures. Assist with clinic emergencies. Assist with equipment logs. Equipment upkeep, clean equipment daily and PRN update, prep unit for ZIP rounds. Update whiteboards.
EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma/equivalent.
Preferred: Graduate of an approved Medical Assistant program or US Military medical services training program.
EXPERIENCE
Required: One year of medical assistant experience; with preferred degree, no experience is required.
Preferred: Two years of Medical Assistant experience
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE
Preferred: Certified by one of the following based on Medical Assistant experience or preferred education:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) by the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) by the American Society of Medical Technologists (AMT).
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA).
National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) by the National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT).
Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
