Operating Room Neurosurgery Technician

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center is home to a highly specialized Main Operating Room that supports complex surgical procedures, including advanced neurosurgery cases requiring precision technology and interdisciplinary coordination. The Operating Room Neurosurgery Technician plays a vital role in supporting surgeons through advanced intraoperative navigation systems and imaging technologies in this high-acuity environment. The Operating Room Neurosurgery Technician ensures technical readiness and directly contributes to the success of neurosurgical procedures.

The Operating Room Neurosurgery Technician supports this mission by enabling precise tumor localization and maintaining critical surgical systems that enhance patient outcomes in a fast-paced clinical environment.

The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with surgical or interventional image-guided technology, experience operating equipment in a live operating room or interventional setting, and strong technical proficiency with navigation platforms and surgical imaging systems. 

Work Schedule: Days, 8-hour day shift with the flexibility to cover other shifts and stay beyond scheduled hours when business needs arise.

Minimum $20.67 – Midpoint $25.96 – Maximum $31.25

Schedule Requirements will be discussed during the interview
•     Must be able to work flexible shifts based on surgical case volume and neurosurgery service needs.
•     On-call participation is required, including availability to work weekends and holidays when on call.

Responsibilities
Navigation and Imaging (Core Responsibility)
• Operate, troubleshoot, and assist in maintaining navigation and image-guided technology, including the Brainlab platform
• Build three-dimensional models from radiological imaging to guide tumor resection with minimal risk to healthy tissue
• Verify radiological scans and transfer imaging into operating room navigation software
• Assist surgeons in registering and confirming tumor location intraoperatively
• Ensure proper functioning of navigation and microscope systems before and after clinical use
• Set up instruments and supplies integrated with navigation and imaging systems

Equipment Maintenance and Training
• Collaborate with Biomedical Engineering and vendors on service contract requirements, repairs, and upgrades
• Support preventive maintenance and installation of hardware and software updates
• Demonstrate competency through observational assessments
• Train and orient newly hired Neurosurgery Technicians

OR Equipment Coverage (As Assigned)
• Serve as OR Equipment Technician when not assigned to neurosurgery navigation duties
• Set up and operate lasers, surgical robots, video towers, and microscopes
• Troubleshoot perfusion and infusion technologies
• Maintain readiness and functionality of assigned OR equipment

Operational Support
• Provide technical support during high-acuity neurosurgical cases
• Manage instruments and supplies required for integrated surgical systems
• Support operations in a fast-paced, high-acuity operating room environment

EDUCATION

  • Required: Associate's Degree Related field.
  • Preferred: Bachelor's Degree Science in related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 3 years Healthcare/research experience; or
  • Required: 1 year Experience with preferred degree.
  • May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Required: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
