The primary responsibility of the Patient Access Specialist is to facilitate accurate, efficient and courteous access to services for new patients. This includes but is not limited to communicating with referral sources, scheduling first visit appointments and registering new patients.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with health insurance plans and healthcare authorization or access processes, with CHAA or CHAM certification considered a plus. Experience supporting Stem Cell Transplantation, Oncology, or other complex specialty care programs is highly desirable. We are seeking a collaborative, respectful, and flexible professional who thrives in a team environment and can successfully balance a hybrid schedule, including weekly on-site support and full on-site attendance during the initial three-month orientation period.

KEY FUNCTIONS
Patient Access  
•    Consistently and accurately utilizes medical acceptance criteria to screen and schedule appointments for new patients in a way to ensure optimal efficiency in clinical operations. 
•    Provides financial counseling options to patients including cost estimates, payment plans, discounts, and supplemental financial assistance; utilizing medical services overrides and account reviews as appropriate.

Revenue Integrity   
•    Collects complete and accurate demographic and financial data during intake process to ensure appropriate financial screening of new patients and verifies data during new patient registration to ensure compliance with required forms and consents.
•    Uses technical expertise to obtain insurance information, verify benefits, and secure authorizations.

Communication and Documentation  
•    Uses excellent oral communication and listening skills to communicate with patient, referral source, MDACC physician and MDACC clinical staff regarding obstacles to access or financial clearance.
•    Responds to voicemail and online messages within one business day and answer phone calls in a timely manner (within 3 rings)
•    Completely and accurately documents communications with payors, patients, and the treatment team.

EDUCATION
Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
Preferred: Associate's Degree Business, healthcare or related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: 3 years Experience in healthcare, insurance or related field. or
Required: 1 year Required experience with preferred degree.
Preferred: 5 years Business experience in healthcare, insurance, or a multi-specialty physician practice.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
Preferred: CHAA - Certified Healthcare Access Associate National Association of Healthcare Access Management. Upon Hire or
Preferred: CHAM - Certified Healthcare Access Manager National Association of Healthcare Access Management. Upon Hire

OTHER REQUIREMENTS
Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
