The Director of Operations, Patient Business Services (PBS) is responsible for delivering consistent and effective leadership on various business processes and technologies related to the institution’s business office functions. This includes establishing policies, standards and business office metrics used to track and monitor the efficiency, quality and adherence of adopted policies and procedures. The Director will oversee the development and maintenance of effective working relationships across the organization, at varying position levels, to facilitate with optimizing the patient’s experience and maximizing collections. The Director will maintain knowledge of external regulatory requirements impacting PBS activities and oversee efforts required to ensure compliance. The Director will support the Executive Director with setting the strategic direction for PBS to ensure optimal performance of the business office processes.


• Effectively leads and coordinates initiatives and operations associated with the business office activities and directs the implementation of standards and systems to enhance quality, consistency, efficiency, and timeliness of such processes
• Establish and set expectations and develops a system of accountability that aligns with the Patient Business Services strategic goals and operational initiatives
• Facilitates timely communication and works collaboratively with other departments, including but not limited to Ambulatory Operations, Patient Access, Financial Clearance Center, Case Management, Patient Advocacy, Legal/Risk Management, and IT to ensure the processes and systems are standardized and optimized for efficient and effective flow of business office functions
• Accountable for successfully leading staff through change and adoption of new technology, upgrades and updates to EPIC and other institution wide initiatives to ensure compliance and optimization of impacted business office related activities

• Manage and oversee the development of department policies and procedures, educational and training curriculum for PBS staff members, and other identified tools and resources that support activities in PBS.
• Oversee the management of vendor sourcing, applicable licensure requirements, audit request and adherence to any institutional, UT System and/or other regulatory requirements
• Oversee and work to timely facilitate the resolution of patient advocacy issues including but not limited to issues related to patient safety, dissatisfaction, access and compliance
• Manage and oversee education coordinator development of education materials and work plan
• Provides oversight and reporting for Provider Enrollment to ensure optimal automation and communication to Physicians Referral Service, Medical Staff Office and Department Administrators to ensure timely and accurate enrollment.
• Quality oversight for billing records prepared for Custodian of Billing Records
• Supports the Executive Director with setting the strategy and serves as a key promoter of leading practice business office processes that will protect the institution’s revenue and achieve optimal patient experience
• Manages human resources activities for direct reports in regards to recruiting, professional development, mentoring, counseling, performance evaluations
• Performs all other duties as assigned






Required:  Ten years of experience in a health care operations management role, to include eight years of experience in billing/collections with governmental and/or managed care payors.



Required:  Bachelor's degree in Business or Healthcare related field.
