Patient Escort - Patient Transportation

The Department of Patient Transportation at MD Anderson Cancer Center is an essential partner in delivering compassionate, timely, and efficient mobility services throughout the institution. Our team ensures that every patient experiences smooth, professional, and supportive transitions between appointments, procedures, and care areas. The primary purpose of the Patient Escort position is to safely and efficiently transport patients, specimens, medical records/films, and shrouded bodies of deceased patients throughout the institution. This role is also responsible for rounding up and maintaining departmental equipment. Patient Escorts are expected to consistently demonstrate professional conduct and provide courteous, compassionate customer service always.
The ideal candidate will have at least one year of healthcare or customer service experience.
The first six weeks of employment will consist of mandatory daytime training, which must be completed as scheduled. The training schedule may vary.
Operational Shifts:
6:45AM - 3:15PM, 8:45AM - 5:15PM, or 9:45AM - 6:15PM (based on availability.)
What You’ll Do:
I. Patient Care
• Safely and efficiently transport patients, specimens, medical records, and expired patients throughout the institution.
• Assist clinical staff in safely moving patients to and from beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers.
• Meet established productivity standards and departmental compliance requirements.
• Deliver care with professionalism, compassion, integrity, and respect.
II. Equipment Care
• Ensure equipment is in proper working condition before and after use; remove damaged or malfunctioning equipment from service, tag for repair, and alert appropriate personnel.
• Round up, clean, and disinfect equipment before and after each use and return items to their designated storage areas.
• Maintain working knowledge of all transport-related equipment.
• Utilize required technology and tools accurately to receive and complete transport assignments.
III. Certification and Training
• Attend and complete all required annual training programs, including Employee Education Events, Hand Hygiene, Infection Control, Age-Appropriate Care, and Customer Service training, as well as maintain a valid CPR certification.
• Complete self-assessments and establish personal development goals that support departmental and institutional priorities.
• Participate in monthly performance initiatives to maintain compliance with departmental and institutional standards, policies, and procedures.
• Successfully pass a pre-employment skills assessment administered by Human Resources.
Please Note:
This position may require transporting patients suspected or confirmed to have COVID-19. Appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be provided. A respirator fit test is required, and proper fitting may require trimming or removal of facial hair to ensure an adequate seal.
