The Patient Services Coordinator supports the Radiation Therapeutic Scheduling Department by ensuring accurate scheduling, timely coordination of care, and clear communication across patient and clinical workflows. Through daily interaction with patients, families, and clinical personnel, the Patient Services Coordinator helps maintain an organized, safe, and informed care environment. This role strengthens operational reliability and contributes directly to efficient patient access and treatment coordination.


As a key contributor within MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Patient Services Coordinator plays an essential role in advancing the institution’s mission by supporting high‑quality patient experiences and reliable administrative processes. The Patient Services Coordinator collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to maintain accuracy, confidentiality, and continuity throughout the patient care journey.
 

The ideal candidate for the Patient Services Coordinator role brings strong communication skills, experience supporting patients or customers, and familiarity with scheduling or administrative workflows. Preferred candidates may have healthcare experience, comfort with clinical systems, and the ability to manage a variety of inquiries while maintaining accuracy and professionalism.
 

Minimum $19.23 – Midpoint $24.04 – Maximum $28.85
 

The typical work schedule is 2:30pm–11pm.
 

Work location: Proton Therapy Center.

Responsibilities
Patient & Family Communication
• Greet, orient, and respond to questions from patients and families
• Advise patients and families on available services and next steps
• Schedule and coordinate provider visits, diagnostic tests, procedures, and treatments based on provider orders
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, coworkers, and visitors


Multidisciplinary Team Communication
• Use interpersonal and communication skills to meet customer needs
• Acknowledge and clarify customer requests, inquiries, or complaints to ensure needs are documented and addressed
• Communicate scheduling information and preparation requirements to patients, families, physicians, team members, and other care areas via in‑person, phone, mail, online applications, or secure messaging


Record Maintenance
• Prepare and maintain appointment templates and patient records electronically and manually
• Update patient information to maintain accurate records
• Maintain security and confidentiality of all patient information
• Process complex and varied documents and situations
• Focus on deadlines for task or assignment completion


Financial Activities
• Review and collect patient payments including co‑payments, deductibles, and prepayments
• Update payment information in One Connect as directed by the Financial Clearance Center or Patient Access Services
• Reconcile and maintain the One Connect cash drawer daily and report discrepancies immediately
• Follow cash-handling guidelines including daily change-fund procedures
• Perform Medicare Secondary Payer Questionnaire validation for accurate billing
• Ensure coordination of benefits and Hospital Account Record assignments


Additional Duties
• Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION

  • Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Preferred: Associate's Degree

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Required: 3 years Relevant work experience. or
  • Additional education may be substituted for required experience on a one-to-one basis.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
