Phlebotomist - League City
Join the Phlebotomist team supporting MD Anderson’s League City location, where the Phlebotomist plays a vital role in every patient’s care journey. As a Phlebotomist at MD Anderson Cancer Center, you will contribute to an organization dedicated to cancer care, research, education, and prevention. The Phlebotomist collaborates with clinical teams across multiple locations to ensure safe, accurate, and timely specimen collection that supports high‑quality patient care.
The ideal candidate brings clinical phlebotomy experience, competency in venipuncture and specimen collection, and commitment to safety protocols. Preferred strengths include at least three months of clinical laboratory phlebotomy experience, strong communication skills, and reliability in a fast‑paced environment requiring flexibility and professionalism.
Hourly Rate: Minimum $18.27 – Midpoint $22.84 – Maximum $27.40
The typical work schedule is Monday–Friday, 5:45am-2:15pm, no weekends or holidays however, subject to change. Initial or remedial training will be completed at the Medical Center for one month.

Responsibilities
Phlebotomy & Specimen Collection
• Perform venipuncture, blood culture, peripheral line, urine, blood bank, genetic test, and research collections.
• Conduct positive patient identification before all procedures.
• Read labels and instructions and accurately label all specimens.
• Complete most procedures within 10–20 minutes of the first venipuncture attempt.
• Share difficult venipuncture information with Manager, Lead, or designee.
• Greet and communicate with patients professionally and empathetically.
• Support patients with needle-related anxiety.
• Perform specimen processing and maintain specimen integrity for special handling.
Compliance with Policies & Protocols
• Conduct all procedures according to Standard Operating Procedures.
• Complete and file electronic and paper records accurately.
• Assist Manager, Lead, and other staff as needed.
• Complete required Continuing Education.
Safety Practices
• Ensure a safe environment and report adverse events.
• Use equipment and supplies according to safety guidelines.
• Wear appropriate protective attire and PPE.
• Participate in required safety training.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas.
• Prevent needlesticks and dispose of needles properly.
• Report all safety incidents.
• Complete annual Fit Test requirements.
Professionalism, Flexibility & Communication
• Build and maintain professional relationships with all team members.
• Maintain cooperative working relationships in a psychologically safe environment.
• Answer phones professionally within three rings.
• Adjust to schedule changes and assist at multiple Houston‑area locations.
• Support opening and closing responsibilities at home base location.
• Communicate scheduling challenges promptly.
• Read and respond to emails and collaborate with leadership.
Productivity & Patient Flow
• Maintain acceptable productivity standards.
• Work efficiently to help reduce patient wait times.
• Rotate or share work areas, maintain cleanliness, and protect patient confidentiality.
EDUCATION
- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Preferred: Associate's Degree Medical Laboratory Technician Program. or
- Completion of a specialized phlebotomy training program.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: Completion of a MD Anderson phlebotomy internship. or
- Required: Six months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory. or
- Required: With preferred education, only three months of phlebotomy experience in a clinical laboratory required.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Preferred: CPT - Phlebotomy Technician Certification American Society of Clinical Pathologist Board of Registry (BOR) or American Certification Agency (ACA). Upon Hire
- Preferred: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Upon Hire
