MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center is to eliminate cancer in Texas, the nation, and the world through outstanding programs that integrate patient care, research and prevention, and through education for undergraduate and graduate students, trainees, professionals, employees and the public.

SUMMARY
Provides quality assurance of medical imaging equipment. Responsibilities include: initiating, performing, and monitoring equipment quality assurance activities for the Division and train Radiologic Technologists in proper equipment operations and radiation safety procedures.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES
Quality Control Management Performs quality control and periodic testing of Medical Imaging Equipment(CT, MRI, X-Ray, Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine, and PET) in accordance with the Texas Department of Health, the Bureau of Radiation Control, the equipment manufacturer's standards, or as instructed by a licensed Medical Physicist.

Reviews, provides follow-up, and assists with problems detected on the routine QC test results.

Maintains records of routine periodic QC test results and prepares monthly reports. Records are required for inspection by JCAHO, Texas Bureau of Radiation Control and other agencies as needed.

Maintains appropriate level of effort and communication with the Medical Physicists managing clinical physics projects to assure progress is continuous and quality control activities are not compromised.


Equipment Management Must be able to operate imaging equipment throughout the department.

Must be capable of operating radiation detection instrumentation and phantoms.

Responds to and trouble-shoot equipment performance issues.

Identifies equipment malfunctions, systems hardware and software failures.

Identifies operator errors and provides appropriate instruction/feedback to operators.

Assists with testing of all instrumentation used for quality control. Participates in intercomparison and calibration verifications of testing equipment.

Coordinates equipment service event with service contractors and MDACC engineering team. Follow up on service events to ensure/verify safety and proper imaging performance. Performs equipment quality assurance tests after service is completed as required.

Assists with commissioning of new equipment.

Other duties as assigned.


Required Education: Bachelor's degree in Physics, Engineering, or a related physical science.
