MISSION STATEMENT

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

Research and Design Activities

  • Lead projects by planning, organizing, coordinating, and participating in research related to industry-sponsored research agreements and grants.
  • Compile research presentations and written reports for research updates.

Lab Operations

  • Design, develop, or adapt equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.
  • Use research knowledge and expertise to identify and resolve laboratory operational issues, data collection and management issues, and interact with internal and external sources to resolve problems.
  • Ensure laboratory adherence to safety standards.
  • Supervise, coordinate, implement, and evaluate various activities, functions, and procedures involving daily activities within the research group.
  • Exercise creativity, initiative, and inventiveness in planning and executing experiments and interpreting results.
  • Prepare samples to be submitted to other Core labs for further analysis.
  • Maintain records of animal colonies and breeding strategies.
  • Participate in the development and revision of techniques; assemble and operate laboratory apparatus and equipment.
  • Collaborate or assist with supervisor, senior research staff, and trainees in preparing reports and grant requests.
  • Perform various animal experiments and laboratory techniques, including animal breeding and surgery, tissue processing, immunohistochemical staining, PCR, and flow cytometry.

Training and Publications

  • Train junior staff in selected technical areas, as well as in all areas of safety.
  • Compile, write, and evaluate data for publication purposes and submit project results to PI in appropriate digital format.
  • Perform peer reviews of published scientific articles to validate theories and corroborate research.
  • Actively prepare and submit abstracts and manuscripts related to research outcomes for presentation and peer-reviewed publication.
  • Present research findings in laboratory research meetings.
  • Opportunities may arise to present findings at national meetings, depending on ability and judgment of the principal investigator.
  • Share in authorship of publications, with contribution determined by the principal investigator based on role in research findings.

Other Duties as Assigned

  • Perform other duties as assigned or deemed appropriate by the PI.

Education Required - Masters degree in one of the natural sciences or related field.

Experience Required - Four years of experience in experimental or scientific work. With PhD, no experience required. With Medical degree, two years of experience in experimental or scientific work.
