Room Service Wait Staff - Weekends Only
The Room Service Wait Staff position at MD Anderson Cancer Center in the Texas Medical Center works as the key link in providing excellent customer service to patients, caregivers and guests while delivering breakfast, lunch and dinner to their room. Picking up the phone to order a nutritious, freshly prepared meal that's delivered by an attendant wearing a tuxedo might seem more common at a four-or five-star hotel than a cancer center, but Room Service programs like ours that provide efficient, high quality, cooked-to-order culinary options have become essential to ensuring a better patient experience.
This is a part-time position, working weekends only from 2-10:30pm. Ideal candidates will have a high school diploma or equivalent and at least one year of experience as a waiter or server.
Hourly breakdown of salary range:
Minimum $17.00 - Midpoint $20.04 - Maximum $23.08
Much like the personalized cancer treatment our patients receive, our culinary and clinical nutrition teams design restaurant-style menus with fresh, cooked-to-order foods that are personalized to meet each cancer patient's dietary guidelines. Their choices can be delivered to their hospital rooms 365 days a year, from 6:30am to 9:30pm. Caregivers and guests of inpatients are also able to order quality meals with fresh ingredients designed by culinary experts. Job Specific Competencies:
Orients patients to room service offerings. Assists patients and guests with menu selection. Assembles, delivers and serves meals and nourishments. Utilizes knowledge of menu and modified diets to ensure that menu selections comply with prescribed diet, age-related needs and other patient conditions. Communicates effectively with nursing and nutrition staff to coordinate meal service with other patient care functions. Prepares and delivers tube feedings. Retrieves trays, records food intake and returns trays to ware washing area. Inventories, assembles and delivers supplies. Maintains sanitation of work area and equipment. Collects payment for guest trays. Create a positive interaction and outcome with all patients, guests and staff by utilizing the interpersonal and customer service skills. Communicate effectively, assure accuracy, food presentation, and diet compliance, explain the menu selection process, assist patient with menu selection and reassure delivery and pick up within established time frame. Adhere to policies, guidelines and procedures.
EDUCATION:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
Required: One year experience in a patient care or hospitality environment.
Preferred: At least one year of experience as a waiter or server.
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:
Must obtain a current Texas Food Handlers Certification within 30 days of entry into job.
