Senior Data Engineer
The Senior Data Engineer role sits within the Enterprise Data Engineering & Analytics Department and plays a critical part in operationalizing enterprise data and analytics through the Context Engine framework. The Senior Data Engineer supports digital business initiatives by partnering with technical and institutional teams to deliver governed, secure, and reusable data solutions that accelerate insight generation across the organization.
The Senior Data Engineer contributes to this mission by enabling high-quality, trusted data access that supports clinical, operational, and research decision-making across the enterprise. The Senior Data Engineer works creatively and collaboratively with peers and stakeholders to advance institutional data strategy and analytics delivery.
The ideal candidate for the Senior Data Engineer role has advanced experience in enterprise data engineering, strong familiarity with cloud-based data pipelines, and a solid understanding of healthcare data environments. A preferred candidate holds a master’s degree in a related technical field, has experience with Epic Clarity and Caboodle reporting data models and Microsoft Fabric, and either already has or is prepared to obtain Epic Data Model certification while collaborating effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
The minimum salary is $123,000, the midpoint is $154,000, and the maximum is $185,000, based on a 40-hour work week. The work location is remote only in Texas.

Responsibilities
Data Engineering and End-to-End Solution Delivery
• Participate in end-to-end solution delivery across the Context Engine framework to increase enterprise information capabilities
• Build and enhance data sources, pipelines, transformations, and models with integrated data governance processes
• Incorporate data ingestion, curation, ingress, egress, and metadata management practices
• Design and execute SQL and NoSQL queries for analysis, testing, and problem solving
• Collaborate with other data engineers on integration and institutional data management strategies
Analytics Delivery and Stakeholder Partnership
• Gather and refine data requirements to ensure analytics deliverables meet true business needs
• Deliver analytics outputs including reports, metrics, extracts, visualizations, dashboards, and projects
• Promote data analytics and delivery efforts across institutional stakeholders
• Partner with Enterprise Development & Integration and Enterprise Data Science teams on end-to-end solutions
Standards, Testing, and System Maintenance
• Adhere to IS division standard operating procedures and MD Anderson policies
• Support data steward and governance oversight sign-off for institutional data strategy compliance
• Prepare technical documentation for enhancements and new technologies
• Perform quality control, testing, and peer review of analytics builds
• Support system updates, releases, change control, and after-hours application support
Education, Training, and Enablement
• Train data scientists, analysts, and data consumers on data pipelining and preparation techniques
• Assist with development of training plans and curricula for Context Engine tools
• Provide institutional, department, and one-on-one training on analytics deliverables
• Support liaison relationships with customers and OneIS partners

EDUCATION
- Required: Bachelor's Degree
- Preferred: Master's Degree Business Analytics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Science, or related.
WORK EXPERIENCE
- Required: 5 years Relevant information technology experience. or
- Required: 3 years Relevant experience required with preferred degree.
- May substitute required education with years of related experience on a one to one basis.
- Preferred: Experience with data modeling and back end for Epic reporting, cloud base data pipeline and development, building custom objects and custom data loads/load packages in Clarity and Caboodle, experience with Microsoft Fabric and building out data engineering pipelines in Fabric using Python, PySpark and related technologies, and healthcare experience including hospital workflows.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Required: EPIC - EPIC Certification Must obtain at least one Epic Data Model certification (Clinical, Access, or Revenue) issued by Epic of date of entry into job. within 180 Days
