Senior Financial Analyst - Immunology

The Immunology department at MD Anderson Cancer Center seeks to determine the fundamental cellular and molecular mechanisms of a wide range of processes by which the body recognizes and eliminates pathogens and use these findings to unleash the patient’s own immune system against previously treatment-resistant cancers. Treating the immune system rather than the cancer itself, the therapeutics developed are applicable to many cancers.



  • Performs monthly salary trending for all departmental chart fields.
  • Works closely with the Immunotherapy Platform staff to analyze data and provide reports regarding Strategic Industry Ventures (SIV’s) and the Parker Institute (PICI) based on the needs/requests from the alliances and/or PICI.
  • Oversees the work of the departmental accountants and is responsible for the overall financial needs of the department.
  • Prepares the annual budget.
  • Compiles and projects status of accounts on a monthly basis.
  • Provides monthly reports summarizing available funds to the Department Administrator.
  • Possesses a working knowledge of federal/state financial regulations, and university financial policies and procedures.
  • Maintains salary allocation on all accounts.
  • Assists faculty members as needed in the preparation of the budgets for grant proposals and contractual agreements. Analyzes/forecasts accounts as requested by faculty and/or department administrator.
  • Generates specialized financial metrics reports as requested by the chair, department administrator and/or institutional leadership
  • Other duties as assigned.

Management of Reconciling  

  • Responsible for ensuring that the monthly reconciliations are completed on a timely basis and within institutional guidelines on all departmental funds including staff development funds, start-up funds, chairman's funds, grant funds, foundation and donor funds, industry-sponsored funds, Immunotherapy Platform alliances (SIV’s), Parker Institute funds, and departmental M&O.
  • Interacts with all levels of personnel within the department, other institutional departments, as well as outside agencies to resolve problems/errors or questions regarding basic accounting reconciliation items.
  • Works with departmental buyer in determining the best practices for account reconciliation.
  • Implements and oversees self-audit checks and procedures to maintain financial integrity.
  • Creates and reviews procedures to ensure fiscal transparency and maintain archival backup of necessary documentation.
  • In the event of an audit, complies fully and provides all requested materials.
FileMaker Management
  • Responsible for providing process updates to the department's FileMaker database to department administrator, procurement team, admin director, research program, grant program manager, and accountants.
  • Primary contact/resource for all basic science departments to answer questions and provide guidance regarding the FileMaker database.


Required: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration or related business specialty.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Business Administration or related business specialty.


Required: Five years experience in data analysis, accounting or financial project management

Preferred: Experience with Filemaker, Oracle Business Intelligence Suite Enterprise Edition, Peoplesoft financials and understanding of research/grants.
