The primary purpose of this position is to lead and manage our APP team operationally while ensuring we maintain high clinical standards, compliance, and support our team's professional growth. The position will support the 5 HAL locations and have 8 direct reports who all work in the HALs. The position is a “working supervisor” and will be expected to have a primary clinic day and an independent practice at one of the HAL locations.

KEY FUNCTIONS

Provides Supervision and Support to the Advanced Practice Provider Team     
•   Provides day to day oversight & supervision for the advanced practice provider team 
•   Oversees the staffing and scheduling of APP staff;  maintains timekeeping, allocates resources, coordinates back-up coverage and plans   training where appropriate 
•   Responsible for the performance management of the APP team, including goal setting, conduct, counseling/disciplinary actions, coaching, employee recognition and ongoing professional development 
•    Maintains oversight of employee personnel expenses, approvals and management of PRS funds 
•    In collaboration with physician and APP leaders, optimizes APP roles, ensuring top of scope APP practice 
•    Leads the recruitment and hiring process for new APP positions. 
 
Participates in Strategic Planning of APP Programs   
•    Communicates and coordinates organizational, department, and division goals to the APP teams 
•    Participates in the strategic planning of the APP workforce, clinics/services, assisting with templates, capacity, patient selection, budget            projections and helps to determine ancillary support or clinical service line needs 
•    Participates in Project management, as assigned by departmental leadership 
•    Coordinates provider credentialing and privileging and ensures compliance, quality and timely reporting to institutional committees  
•    Leads FPPE and OPPE Process for credentialing and re-credentialing for assigned center 
•    Monitors APP compliance with licensing, education/training (CME, BLS, ACLS) 
•    Develops and coordinates clinical orientation, continued competency, and optimal professional development for the NP/PA team


Participates in Quality Assurance and promotes Patient Safety   
•    Ensures staff compliance with all clinical and administrative institutional policies and procedures 
•    Communicates and informs APP team of New Policies and Procedures 
•    Reviews SI Reports/Participation in reviewing safety reports as directed 
•    Participates in departmental safety committee (as applicable) 
•    Understands/defines quality measures for services and promotes Quality/Process Improvement projects 
•    Ensures clinical documentation is in alignment with QOPI standards 
 
Leadership Participation and Development     
•     Responsible for providing strategic communications received by Institutional leadership    
•     Participates in ongoing Leadership Education and training (Develop Oneself) 
•     Responsible for leading initiatives to foster the ongoing, continual development of the APP team 
•     Serves as a member of the departmental leadership team, assisting with clinical operation needs as appropriate


Provide Care   
 •     Provides quality health care services in Oncology, including but not limited to patient evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, coordination of care, preventative care and health maintenance of patients 
•     Maintains medical knowledge necessary to perform the role 
•     Conducts comprehensive assessment of patients throughout the continuum in the ambulatory setting based on age and diagnosis,                   including psychological status 
•     Participates in clinical research as appropriate

Consultation -  Provides consultation to colleagues and allied personnel outside and within MDACC. 
Collaborates with medical, nursing, and other disciplines regarding plan of care, follow-up and evaluation. 
Recommends therapeutic measure for relief of symptoms.

Other duties as assigned
 

Education Required: Degree requirements as defined by the Texas State Board Physician Assistant Examiners (TSBPAE) or Texas State Board of Nurse Examiners (TSBNE), as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse or Physician Assistant.

Experience Required: Two years experience as an advanced practice provider. 

Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources. 

Licensure/Certification

REQUIRED: Current license and/or certification as defined by the (TSBPAE) or (TSBNE) as required for clinical licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN or ACNP or ACNPC or ACAGNP or AGACNP or ACNPC-AG or AGACNP or AGNP or ACPNP or ANP or AGNP or AGPCNP or FNP or GNP or PNP or PMHNP or WHNP or APNP) or Physician Assistant. Related authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population. Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
