Supervisor, Occupational Therapy

Reports to: Associate Director, Rehabilitative Services

MISSION STATEMENT
The mission of The University of Texas M. D. SUMMARY

  • Provide direct supervision of assigned Therapy operations.
  • Coordinate and support clinical aspects of care for patients with Therapy needs.
  • Plan, coordinate, and organize assigned Therapy services.
  • Orient, supervise, coach, mentor, and perform performance evaluations of assigned therapists and assistants.
  • Render direct patient care needed.

JOB SPECIFIC COMPETENCIES

  • Insure direct report personnel are appropriately selected and oriented.

     Evaluate performance of direct reports using the Institutional Performance Evaluation system within Institutional time frame. 
     Holds staff accountable for behavior and performance by providing timely and specific feedback and discipline as appropriate.

  • Provides routine clinical and behavioral supervision to guide direct reports toward excellence in care.
  • Assesses the development needs of direct reports.
  • Collaborates with direct reports and peers to plan and implement development plans for direct reports.
  • Provides appropriate rewards and recognitions to staff to foster continued development and employee satisfaction.
  • Manage day to day staffing levels and distribution of patient load and screens.
  • Maintain adequate staffing via management of leave requests, per diem and contract services.
  • Plan work activities of the team. Help team effectively rearrange its priorities when conditions change.
  • Provide team with necessary resources to perform its task.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with all customers to facilitate delivery of patient care across continuum.
  • Assesses the needs of customers including patients, families, physicians, and other departments.
  • Completes customer rounding to established expectations and takes appropriate action.
  • Makes appropriate efforts to identify programmatic needs and to initiate program development, quality or process improvement or educational activities.
  • Lead, participate in, or mentor a department Performance Improvement Project and/or process improvement activities
  • Insure staff compliance with regulatory requirements
  • Establish and ensure best practice by teaching, auditing, & mentoring and taking appropriate action as indicated.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Required Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy.

Preferred Education: Master’s degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy.

Required Experience: Four years of experience as an occupational therapist to include one year of lead of supervisory experience. 

Preferred Experience: Experience in an acute care setting, preferably an oncology setting. Experience in supervision and/or teaching.

Preferred Licenses: Current  license to practice occupational therapy in the state of Texas from the Texas State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.  Current CPR certification.

Education Required: Bachelor's or advanced degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy. 

Education Preferred: Master’s degree from an accredited school of Occupational Therapy.

Experience Required: Four years of experience as an occupational therapist to include one year of lead or supervisory experience. Successful completion of the LEADing Self Accelerate and/or LEADing Self Discover programs may substitute for one year of required supervisory or management experience. Completion of both programs can be substituted for a maximum of two years of supervisory or management experience. 

Experience Preferred: Experience in an acute care setting, preferably an oncology setting. Experience in supervision and/or teaching. 

Licenses/Certifications Required: Current license to practice occupational therapy in the state of Texas from the Texas State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners. Current CPR certification. Must pass pre-employment skills test as required and administered by Human Resources.
