Facilities Project Inspector - Architectural
The Facilities Project Inspector – Architectural supports the Environmental Services (EVS) Department at MD Anderson Cancer Center, a department that plays a critical role in patient care by ensuring hospital environments are safe, sanitary, and supportive of healing. EVS professionals maintain high standards across patient rooms, operating suites, waiting areas, and all hospital spaces, directly impacting patient outcomes and the ability of care teams to deliver services in a safe setting. The Facilities Project Inspector – Architectural contributes to this mission by providing architectural construction oversight that protects safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.

Through consistent inspections, documentation, and coordination with stakeholders, the Facilities Project Inspector – Architectural helps safeguard patients, staff, and caregivers while protecting the organization’s facilities and long-term investments.
The ideal candidate is a detail-oriented professional with 3 to 5 years of experience performing architectural inspections for commercial construction projects. This individual demonstrates strong knowledge of building codes, construction documentation, and inspection practices, communicates effectively with varied stakeholders, and applies consistent judgment in complex healthcare construction environments. A structural engineering background is beneficial but not required.
Salary range: Minimum $77,500.00 – Midpoint $97,000.00 – Maximum $116,500.00

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensure Compliance With Plans, Codes, and Specifications
• Review construction drawings, architectural plans, and engineering specifications
• Verify contractor compliance with building codes, safety regulations, and local ordinances
• Identify deviations from approved plans and require corrective action
Conduct On-Site Inspections and Quality Reviews
• Perform daily or scheduled construction site walkthroughs
• Inspect workmanship, materials, and installations for quality and compliance
• Document construction progress and identify deficiencies or risks
Monitor Project Progress and Documentation
• Track construction progress against approved schedules
• Report delays or risks that may impact project completion
• Prepare inspection reports with photos, notes, and recommendations
• Maintain records of inspections, approved changes, and contractor communications
• Assist in preparing and verifying punch lists
Support Safety, Coordination, and Key Construction Phases
• Monitor site safety conditions and support compliance with OSHA standards
• Identify hazards and notify contractors or facility management
• Coordinate with architects, engineers, contractors, and internal facilities teams
• Review and verify materials and submittals against approved specifications
• Validate work during foundations, framing, rough-ins, fire protection, finishes, commissioning, and close-out
Assist With Close-Out and Contractor Performance
• Verify completion of punch list items
• Inspect final installations including HVAC, fire alarms, lighting, and equipment
• Support occupancy readiness and sign-off procedures
• Verify contractor performance and contract compliance to protect facility investments
EDUCATION
Required: Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Construction Management, Construction Sciences or other construction-related field.
Preferred: Working knowledge of International Building Code, Texas Accessibility Standards and Life Safety.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required: 3 years Project management/construction management experience or 10 years Experience in the related construction trade to include one year of supervisory experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.
Preferred: Experience performing architectural inspections for commercial construction.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS
- Preferred: EL-M - Master Electrician Upon Hire
- Preferred: LMP - Licensed Master Plumber Upon Hire
- Preferred: Industry-sponsored inspector certifications pertinent to the trades being inspected. Upon Hire
