The Senior Photographer, Studio Portraits, reports to the Associate Director of Photography and plays a vital role in capturing high-quality professional portraits of executives, clinicians, faculty, and staff. This role requires strong technical and customer service skills to effectively interact with colleagues, executives, and staff, ensuring the identity and personality of each subject are captured through expert composition and lighting techniques.

This position will be responsible for traveling to remote locations to set up a studio and conduct photography sessions.

The ideal candidate should be skilled in portrait photography with a strong understanding of lighting techniques, particularly in a studio setting. The Senior Photographer will need the ability to interact effectively with clients, and experience in posing individuals to achieve the best quality photograph. Experience in headshot photography is ideal.


Key Responsibilities:
General Photography - Portraits:

  • Independently create digital, publication-quality photographs of staff, events, and environmental locations that align with the institution's mission.
  • Communicate and collaborate with leaders, executives, donors, and staff to produce impactful imagery for traditional and emerging media formats, including all digital platforms.
  • Oversee the portrait studio, equipment, and scheduling calendar.
  • Implement and recommend processes in portrait photography.
  • Serve as a consultant to staff, directing freelancers and interns to maximize the impact of general photography in support of patient care, education, and research.
  • Manage various projects as assigned.

Post-Production:

  • Post-process digital imagery, including tone and color corrections, retouching, and metadata application.
  • Prepare and deliver images for client use, and upload and archive photography into the digital asset management (DAM) system.

Departmental Operations:

  • Assist the Associate Director of Photography with assigning and scheduling staff, resolving client and scheduling issues, and maintaining and upgrading equipment.
  • Contribute to workflow processes and improvements.
  • Support the overall daily operations of general photography.

Perform additional tasks as assigned.

EDUCATION

Required: Bachelor's Degree in Photography or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Required: Five years Photography experience. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience on a one to one basis.

Preferred: Experience in large educational or medical photography department and/or commercial photography studio.
